Excon 2007 proved a big opportunity for over 280 exhibitors from the leading construction equipment companies, including 56 overseas companies to showcase their world-class products and services. NBM&CW editorial team had a hectic time interacting with its various clients and also new clients to cover their developments. But keeping our readership in mind, we have selected some. The snippets of these companies are presented in brief.
By virtue of being one of the leading organizers of this show, the company had a prime time. JCB display was meticulously designed and well–executed and had a festive look around it.The organizers made their equipment to play games, acrobatics and choreographed their maneuvers with music enthralling the visitors. Mr John Patterson, President & CEO, JC Bamford Excavators attending the show had an interesting observation to make. We are committed to the Indian market. We are setting up new factories, hiring and training more number of people. At present, we have 2000 employees working in JCB India factories in India. The company offers a wide range of products for the construction equipment industry through these factories, he said. The facility at Ballabhgarh is set to become the leading volume factory in the world for the global company. A new heavy machinery factory has recently been inaugurated near Pune. With these facilities at its command, JCB India indeed looks to scoop country infrastructure space. An interview with Mr. Vipin Sondhi, Managing Director, JCB India, is published on Page No 92.
Escorts Construction Equipment Ltd (ECEL), a subsidiary of Escorts is a dominant player in the material handling, construction equipment and road construction equipment sector. With over three decades of presence, ECEL are the pioneer and the largest manufacturers of the Pick-n-Carry cranes worldwide. It has a wide range of products like pick-n-cranes, saw cranes, loaders, vibratory soil compactors and tandem vibratory rollers. At Excon 2007, it launched TRX series of cranes in the 23T (TRX 2319), 17 T (TRX 1713) and 16 T (TRX 1614) category. These cranes are packed with features and attributeswhich are desirable for the end Users. Speaking at the launch ceremony, ECEL's Associate VP, Marketing and Sales, Mr Rajesh Sharma said, with the launch of new TRX series, we will take the process of innovations forward and maintain leadership. In another development, a partnership with Alpha Services, leading manufacturers and pioneers of Mobile Tower Cranes in India, the company will exclusively be marketing its range of tower cranes. These new products along with others quality products and services from ECEL will further strengthen its position, he added. The US-based $46 billionCaterpillar, a leading manufacturer of earthmoving and construction equipment and back loader had introduced the new PM 102 cold planer, CS533E and CP533E Vibratory Soil compactor at Excon 2007.
PM 102 Cold Planer available with a track or wheel Undercarriage, offer's offers optimum maneuverability, compact dimensions and advanced technology that makes it ideal for cold milling applications on small to medium scale sites where high cutting volumes and full plunge depth features are important.
The PM-102 is powered by a Cat®ACERT C7 engine that provides 168 kW (225 hp) @ 2200 rpm.
The CS533E and CP533E provide excellent machine performance with good operator visibility and comfort. The machines are easy to service, and increase machine commonality across the Cat vibratory soil compactor product line.
The CS533E and CP533E Soil Compactors have operating weights ranging from 10.4 - 12.7 metric ton and feature a unique dual pump arrangement standard on all Cat 500E-Series Soil Compactors.
Both Compactors provide high compaction performance in typical applications where common fill lift thickness is less than 30 cm. The CS533E and CP533E have been designed to comply with applicable OSHA regulations.
Caterpillar is looking for acquisitions, partnership for sourcing components for its worldwide requirements. It is actively engaged in giving a big push in the Indian market, both for equipment and backloaders. It has plans for manufacturing specific products as per requirement. In a move that supports its highly valued OEM customers and augments penetration into emerging Asian markets, it has signed an agreement with Automotive Robotics Inc. With locations in Hyderabad and Pune, it will act as a facilitators between Cat OEM Solutions and original equipment manufacturers in India.
Speaking to NBM&CW, Mr. Rodney C Beeler, Caterpillar Vice President, Asia Pacific Marketing said that the company reaffirms its focus on delivering best value to its Indian customers. This includes its manufacturing facilities, expanding product offerings, increasing training and education initiatives and providing world-class customer service solutions. In response to market challenges and to address rapidly expanding construction industry needs, Caterpillar, in conjunction with dealers, has initiated a network of Cat Rental Stores across India, he said.
At Excon, Telco Construction Equipment Company (Telcon) announced its investment plans amounting to Rs 180 crore towards capacity expansion at its Dharward manufacturing facility in north Karnataka. Apart from increasing the production capacity at two of its existing facilities, Dharward and Jamshedpur, Telcon is also looking to set up a third facility at Kharagpur. The new facility is expected to commence operations by mid 2008. This was disclosed to NBM&CW by its Managing Director, Mr. Sinha. The company is also planning to set up training schools at its three facilities, he added. The company was scouting for acquisitions in the US and the UK. Within India, we are looking to buy component manufacturers. Productionfor the fiscal is expected to be around 8,000 machines and Telcon expects to end the fiscal with a turnover of about Rs 2,600-2,700 crore, said Mr. Sinha.
Italian construction equipment major, an international leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of foundation equipment, was at Excon to strengthen its Indian operations. It has already made strong inroads into Indian market, selling 20 units in the past ten months and has a portfolio of more than 12 rigsto be delivered in the next two months. Soilmec India offers a wide portfolio of 20 machines ranging from 20 tons to 100 tons, capacity of drilling piles from 400mm upto 3000 mm diameters. Soilmec has been operationalised in India in 1996 providing only sales and support. Since, January 2007, we have scaled up the operations and have been incorporated as a manufacturing and trading company. Currently, one of our top priorities in India is to improve and develop new infrastructure. We have a concrete roadmap to meet various demands and ensure timely delivery. We offer comprehensive solutions that are the results of intense research and development done by Soilmec over the last 4 decades, said Mr. Sanjay Chakrabarty, Managing Director, Soilmec (India), on the sidelines of Excon Exhibition.
BEML formely known as Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, manufacturer of wide variety of earthmovingand construction equipment at Excon showcased its new mining and construction equipment, the BE 200 Hydraulic Excavator. It is a rugged and efficient machine with two mode closed center load sensing hydraulic system. The system ensures high productivity, digging capacity, maneuvering precision and good fuel economy. The excavator engine is a six cylinder, 4 stroke diesel, turbo changed engine manufactured by BEML. It is built for power, reliability and economy, said company spokesman. The company has recently floated a subsidiary in Brazil for sourcing and assembling of mining and construction equipment to cater to the growing Latin American market, said BEML Chairman and Managing Director, VRS Natarajan. The company also plans to open an office in China to procure mining and construction equipment for the domestic market, he added.

Bellstone Hi Tech International showcased its unique Ballon Light Tower at Excon. This glare free, shadowless, brighter, safe light tower gives a coverage angle of 360. Its high visibility can allow oncoming traffic to recognise a construction zone from a distance and enables construction workers know exactly where they are. As it is a ballon light, it has soft light which will not blind those who are looking into it, nor the approaching traffic, says the company.

Speaking to NBM&CW at Excon, its young dynamic Managing Director, Ashish Sethi, spoke of Stores future plans. It plans to add new state-of-the–art equipment to its stock, including high tech lifts. It has plans to set up such Construction Departmental Stores in different parts of the country in view of good response to its existing venture.
Cummins India announced the launched the latest generation Tier III Emission norms capable Engines for the construction segment, which are well ahead of times. Cummins India–one of the preferred choice of the customers, is now offering a wide range of engines starting from 3.3 ltrs to 8.9 ltrs The entire range is fully capable to meet current emission norms of BS-II and can easily upgrade to BS-III expected to be enforceable by 2011. Cummins now further expects to sustain and grow the market leadership and the market share in this fast growing segment by using right technology, delivering Dependable Performance for customer equipment.
With the launch of these Emission Capable fuel efficient engines, OEMs can now launch their state-of-the art equipment/vehicles conforming to Regulatory norms much before the enforcement of these norms. This is in line with the Cummins Mission of Partnering with the customers to ensures that they succeed.

Taurian Engineering which started its operations in 2005 has made a commendable progress in Indian crushing and screening industry by making impressive inroads into the business, particulary supplying plants to NHAI for its road projects. Its new state-of-the-art plant at Roorkee is manufacturing 6 plants per month. The company has so far sold nearly 38 crushing and screening plants in the country. It has exported screen plants to Mozambique for a prestigious rail project. Changlin,one of the important Chinese construction equipment company, showcased its wide range of products, Wheel Loaders, Motor Graders, SoilCompactors, PTR, and Pavers and India produced Bulldozers, Tower Cranes, Building Hoits at Excon.
At the show, the main foucs was on their PY190H motor grader and ZL50H wheel loader. PY109H motor grader is equipped with reliable genuine Cummins engines. Its Box-typed frame and advanced T/M enables it to complete heavy-duty work. A wide working rage is accomplished through flexible blade suspension system and articulated frame. PY190H Ideal axel Load allocation provides excellent stability while cutting hard surface.
ZL 50H wheel loader is equiped with reliable Caterpillar 3306B license engine or genuine. Its Bucket has automatic leveling ability and combined seal cylinder obtains high seal performance and more reliability.
Changlin's all type of Wheel Loaders working in the country give lower fuel consumption and operation cost. Its Motor Graders developed from Komatsu a platform too have proved success in Indian market. Mr. Wice Li, its Executive Director is very optimistic about the company operating in India for supplying Chinese machinery for Indian projects with assured spare parts and efficient after sales services.

At Excon, LiuGong along with its other products has displayed their 835 wheel loader and CLG906C hydraulic mini excavator. 835 wheel loader has reliable and efficient DongFeng Cummins 6BT5.9 engine with turbocharged technology. Hydraulic pilot control system provide it work efficient and easily. It has Enhanced Cooling System with expanded radiator which increases cooling efficiency, stabilizes the hydraulic system and reduces downtime. For Operator Safety and Comfort the cab is spacious and provides superior visibility to the work area.
Liugong CLG906C hydraulic mini excavator has the bucket capacity 0.23 m3. It has reliable Yanmar engine with low fuel consumption, low noise, low emission (meets EPA Tier2). The crane divisions of the Chowgule Group which manufactures, market/sales and services UNIC make truck mounted cranes and tractor cranes, had displayed their ranges of Truck Mounted Cranes, (UR805E, URV504, URV343) and Tractor Cranes (URV343T and URV234T) during EXCON 2007.
The Truck Mounted Crane is essentially a crane mounted between the cabin and body of a truck. While large numbers of Chowugle-UNIC Truck Mounted Cranes have been used by contractors in India and internationally for a number of years, the show saw the official launch of the Tractor Crane.
The Tractor Crane is basically a tractor with a crane mounted at the rear. The crane can be used for installation of various materials such as electrical poles, precast, transformers, gensets, steel structure, pre fabricated structures, cable rolls, shuttering plates, machineries, etc. A wagon can also be attached to the tractor for transportation of materials.
The Chowgule-UNIC Tractor Cranes are extremely compact and can move over rough terrain areas. Most importantly, the Chowgule Group and Furukawa Unic Corporation (Japan) have developed the Tractor Cranes specifically for the Indian market.
Senior Executives of the Group mentioned that the R&D of the Tractor Crane was done in an extremely holistic manner, using the expertise of tractor manufacturers and also civil contractors specializing in projects in rural areas.
The cranes also come with a service part attachment, from which one can power auxiliary equipment such as augers, concrete cutters, jack hammers and pruners.
For pole erection jobs, customers now claim that they are able to install over 75 poles per day with 3 labor and one Tractor Crane. They now have a single equipment that provides them the complete solution–drill the hole with the auger that is powered from the crane's hydraulic service port (holes can be drilled up to 500mm diameter and 2m depth) and install the pole. SENNEBOGEN has been developing and producing cranes, telescopic cranes, special machinery, materials loaders and hydraulic earthmoving machinery and stands for reliable, finely, engineered equipment. The company supplies flexible standard models as well as individual customised and specialist machinery, which it developed in conjunction with its customers. At Excon, SENNEBOGEN has introduced a brand new SENNEBOGEN 643 crawler Telescopic crane.
The new SENNEBOGEN 643 crawler was utilized in the assembly of the hall arches. Equipped with a 13.0 m double folding jib and a 30.0 m telescopic boom, the machine can be used very flexibly on the construction sites. The 643, with its crawler unit, can also be used reliably on rough terrain and in extreme conditions. Themanoeuvrability in tight spaces and quick position changes provided by the crawler unit are other decisive benefits in practical application. Low maintenance and service costs and easy transport round off the economical overall concept of the 643.
NAWA has earned a distinction of being the first in India to introduce tyre-mounted all mobile plant exceeding 300 TPH of crushing capacity.
NAWA Mobile Plants provide maximum mobility and optimum flexibility to the quarry and contracting companies in turning out large volumes of road-base materials, processing river gravel or mineral sizing. The CKE2500 crawler crane from Kobelco uses new technologies to raise performance to new heights. New Winches with greater line pull can handle the toughest jobs with ease. "Large drum capacities ensure ultra-smooth operation and longer component service life. This crawler crane can perform crane operations even using the luffing boom, enabling it to perform heavy lifting on the spot at high-rise worksites.
Manitou Asia Pte Ltd, a subsidiary company of Manitou Group Singapore, provides marketing, sales and rental of new and used machines, spare parts, after sales services and technical expertise to all Manitou users and distributors in Asia. They are the world leaders in rough-terrain handling equipment. Their product range include: Maniaccess (Access platforms), Manitou Masted Forklift (semi-industrial and industrial forklift trucks), Manihoe (Forklift trucks with front telescopic arm and rear-mounted backhoe), Manilec (Warehouse equipment, including pallet forklift-trucks and stackers), Manitransit (Truck-mounted forklifts), Maniloader (Compact loaders) and Maniscopic (Telescopic forklift trucks).

The MRT range of telescopic swivel trucks will lift loads or personnel to heights from 14 to 30 metres, depending on the versions. The very wide range of attachments available makes the MRT the most versatile machine for industrial maintenance, structural work, and also on all the construction sites.
Sany Group views India market as one of the most important, because of the fast growth of India economy, and hence set up the subsidiary Sany Heavy Industry India Pvt. Ltd, in 2002. The products that have good sales in India include Truck Mounted Concrete Pump, Trailer Mounted Concrete Pump, Motor Grader, Crane and so on.
To meet the further demand of Indian Market, Sany Group has recently invested a $70 million on its manufacturing plant in Pune, for producing 15,000 units of construction machinery which will help to contribute in the increment of its Indian share.
At Excon, Sany has displayed Truck Mounted Concrete Pump, Trailer Mounted Concrete Pump, Motor Grader and so on. It has also showcased the 55t SCC D crawler, which has a 55m boom. Sany has sold about 30 crawlers in India in the last year which was imported from China. Sany heavy Industry India regional manager, Mr. Kingman Ge said, that the Sany crawler cranes would be manufactured soon in India.
Multiquip is mainly promoting compaction equipment, light towers, vibrators and concrete finishing and ceiling equipment such as Trowels, pavers and Saws in India. According to Mr. Narinder Jit Singh at Excon we had launched our new Light Tower Model that has been partly manufactured and assembled in India. Mr. Singh added that this high quality model of light Tower is more economical to that of MQ USA models.
Multiquip is positioning itself by offering economical prices and opening more service centers. Multiquip in near future will tie up with certain approved and authorized government agencies to provide training to upcoming students and would provide these agencies students training at actual job sites on equipment operation, maintenance and services. This would create good operating and maintenance staff availability for their clients and users.
BULL, the largest selling tractor attachment manufacturer in Indiawas also present at Excon in Bangalore and attracted the attention of large number of visitors. The company is recognized as an In-house R & D unit by Ministry of Science and Technology and has a strong R & D team proactive to customers needs. BULL has nation–wide sale's and service's network of 600 plus dealers and branch offices across the country.
At Excon, Bull had presented its Front End Loader, Backhoe dozers, Backhoe loader, Bio–Pulverizer, Windrow Turner and Harvester. Bull Loader attachments are detachable from the tractor in less than 20 minutes and the bare tractors can be used for multi-applications which are not possible in case of dedicated machines.
Bangalore based Ajax Fiori Engineering (India) Pvt. Ltd, manufactures a wide range of equipment for the construction industry, including self loading mobile concrete mixers, batching plants and site dumpers had also participated at Excon.
At Excon, the company has displayed its range of Self Loading Mobile Concrete Mixers, Site Dumpers, Radius Lift Arm Batching Plants, Bin Type Concrete Batching Plants, and Transit Mixers and received overwhelming response from the trade visitors.
Ajax Fiori machinery has been used for RMC operations, at building construction, canal lining, dam, road and other infrastructure construction projects, to name a few.

The Truck Mounted Crane is essentially a crane mounted between the cabin and body of a truck. While large numbers of Chowugle-UNIC Truck Mounted Cranes have been used by contractors in India and internationally for a number of years, the show saw the official launch of the Tractor Crane.
The Tractor Crane is basically a tractor with a crane mounted at the rear. The crane can be used for installation of various materials such as electrical poles, precast, transformers, gensets, steel structure, pre fabricated structures, cable rolls, shuttering plates, machineries, etc. A wagon can also be attached to the tractor for transportation of materials.
The Chowgule-UNIC Tractor Cranes are extremely compact and can move over rough terrain areas. Most importantly, the Chowgule Group and Furukawa Unic Corporation (Japan) have developed the Tractor Cranes specifically for the Indian market.
Senior Executives of the Group mentioned that the R&D of the Tractor Crane was done in an extremely holistic manner, using the expertise of tractor manufacturers and also civil contractors specializing in projects in rural areas.
