bc india 2013

The second edition of BAUMA CONEXPO SHOW-bC India, an International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines and Construction Vehicles will take place from 5 to 8 February, 2013 at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Expected to host around 700 exhibitors and over 40,000 visitors over an area of 130,000 sqm of exhibit space, the show will give the construction industry the most comprehensive range of products and services in the region, the latest state-of-the-art technologies and a wide range of superior-quality. The industry representatives will utilize bC India to make contacts, exchange ideas and information, and invest in the construction industry.

bC India is a joint-venture between two world renowned trade show organizers, i.e. Messe München International (MMI), organizer of BAUMA, and Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), organizer of CONEXPO-CON/AGG. They have combined their expertise to present a construction machinery show in India that is customized to ones business. Both partners are promoting the show around the world to have a greater quality and quantity of international visitors and exhibitors. The show is supported in India by BAI (Builders’ Association of India).

Despite extending the available exhibition space to 130,000 sqm from 88,000 occupied during the last fair, bC India 2013 is almost fully booked. The organizers have drawn up a waiting list for some sections of the show that shows the high regard bC India enjoys among exhibitors.

Talking on the feedbacks to the second edition of the show, Thomas Löffler, Chief Executive Officer bC Expo India Pvt. Ltd. says “our decision to launch bC India just came at the right time and at the right place. Furthermore, the number of exhibitors as well as the feedback from all participants evidence impressively that bC India truly is a new dimension for the construction industry. Ninety-seven percent of the visitors rated bC India as good to excellent according to a survey conducted during bC India 2011. Ninety-nine percent of the visitors said that they would come back to visit bC India 2013. Regarding to the exhibitors, 91% rated bC India as good to excellent which is an outstanding result.”

He further adds, “With regards to all operational issues, we gathered a lot of experiences through the first event of bC India 2011 which helped us a lot for the upcoming event. As far as marketing issues are concerned, we did an extensive visitor’s survey during bC India 2011 wherein the results helped us tremendously to focus on the right marketing channels and to achieve our goal to attract more visitors from especially the north of India and neighboring countries. It looks very promising.”

In this context, the most pleasing thing JCB, one of the leading players in the sector, has been attracted to bC India 2013 as a first-time exhibitor. Amit Gossain, Vice President, Marketing & Business Development at JCB India Limited, commented on their first debut at the show: “We are excited to participate in the bC India exhibition and look forward to present new innovations from JCB at the show.” Other big names taking part for the first time in bC India are: Hyundai, Case, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ashok Leyland, Cifa etc.

Once again interest from abroad is high: bC India 2013 will feature first time pavilions from Northern Ireland and Japan; China, France, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, South Korea, and Spain will organize joint presentations from their countries for the second time.

bc india 2013

bC India is not just a platform for global companies to showcase their innovations to the industry but it also offers trade visitors and audience to participate in first class conferences and buyer forums that are held concurrently to the trade fair. The conferences are organized by the Builders Association of India (BAI), Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (iCEMA) etc. iCEMA’s Conference for example, will deal with the topic “Infrastructure Development - Deliverables and Imperatives. On this Glenville da Silva, President, iCEMA says, “We look forward to organizing iCEMA Conference coinciding with bC India 2013.The conference will present the latest technology for developing infrastructure, key infrastructure projects in India and financing of equipment.”

Giving an overview of the global economy and its impact on bC India, the official spokespersons of research wings RNCOS and Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), Shushmul Maheswari and Anna Westenberger says, “although the World economy is looking on the face of slowdown, the Indian construction sector seems to be on the growth path.” They are of the opinion that the Indian construction sector is likely to clock double-digit growth exactly over and above the country’s average GDP, which it has consistently been maintaining for the past few years. Though the economic slowdown of 2008 adversely impacted the construction equipment industry for a short duration but it bounced back on its growth trajectory in 2009-10, which is expected to continue in future as well.

Dynamic growth in the Indian population stimulates the need for infrastructure improvements with direct positive effects on the domestic construction industry. Ninety percent of bC India exhibitors expect that the economy in the region will keep growing at a dynamic pace.

bC India 2011 was a huge success in its inaugural year, and the outlook for bC India 2013 is even better!

Schwing Stetter

Anand Sunderesan
Mr. Anand Sunderesan, M.D, Schwing Stetter
“bC India is a vital exhibition and this year we are a part of it. We will display our latest innovation on concreting products and services at the show. As many leading construction companies have their headquarters in Mumbai, so we hope that their representatives will certainly visit the exhibition wherein we will be able to showcase our new products and services to them,” says Mr. Anand Sunderesan, Managing Director.

Apprising about the new launch, he proclaims “we will display our new innovations at the show which are the end-result of close interaction with our customers analysing their needs and their difficulties in the concreting area. We have tried to address and resolve their difficulties as much as possible and we are sure that we will definitely be able to help the concrete industry in executing projects with ease and increased performance.”

Schwing Stetter
Not sounding very optimistic about the CE market, he alleged that the year 2012-13 had been a testing time for the construction equipment manufacturers. They hoped that the government would take necessary steps to bring in policy reforms in the coming months which would hopefully boost the demand for construction equipment. However, with respect to concreting equipment, the requirement would come at a much later date. They therefore don’t expect a steep growth in business for such equipments in the year 2013.

Schwing Stetter is a predominant manufacturer in the area of concrete production, transportation and placement. Over the years, with its increased interaction with the construction industry, the company has been able to identify its concreting needs. Its products main focus is on customer’s needs for infrastructure projects like roads, railways, bridges, ports, airports, dams, high-rise constructions, power projects, supply of ready mix concrete, and so on. The company’s latest trend is production of concrete pre-cast products, self-compacting concrete which they will exhibit at the show.

LiuGong India

Sunil Sapru
Mr. Sunil Sapru, President, Liugong India.
“We are quite enthusiastic about our participation at a prestigious platform like bC India which is the largest construction equipment, technology and services exhibition. It is a great opportunity for us to showcase our products portfolio and also a great way to showcase India’s potential in manufacturing world-class construction equipment. We sincerely hope that the visitors will get an incredible experience beyond their expectations. Our machines will enthrall the visitors as we are going to display our entire range of machines and technological innovation,” says Mr. Sunil Sapru, President, Liugong India.

On their participation at the show, he adds, “With various advancements in equipment technology, manufacturers and suppliers have a lot more to offer to the construction and mining industry. bC India brings together the best to offer to the construction fraternity, under one roof. We perceive that our company will be benefited as this show offers an exceptional opportunity to showcase our products and services to our target audience. The variety of the latest technologies which will be showcased, give visitors the opportunity to compare the equipment from the Indian and International manufacturers in order to meet their requirements. We will showcase our offerings and solutions to ensure that our customers complete their projects on time meeting the quality standards and earning profits. Such avenues for interaction would definitely be of great help to our customers as they target new projects and opportunities and to the whole industry in promoting collaboration and exchange. We are set to encash the outcome of the event for building better future business prospects.”

Sharing his views on the demand trends for the CE market in 2013-14, he said that India being the world’s seventh largest country by area and the second largest by population, was one of the most dynamically growing nations but had largely untapped construction equipment market. As road construction (national highways, state highways, and rural roads) was a major growth driver for the Indian infrastructure industry, he hoped approval for building 9500 km of highway projects would go a long way in ensuring growth. Further, the introduction of EPC model would help minimize the time and cost over-runs and enabled a faster roll-out of projects.

Informing about the government’s proactive approach to infrastructure development, he states, “To accelerate the development process in the rural area, the government has already formulated various schemes. With increasing investment in the infrastructure sector, we foresee huge demand for road construction equipment manufacturers in the coming years. Also, as our government plans to work on the faster execution of the top priority projects, it will act as an enabler in keeping the momentum rolling. Further growth to the CE business will be from mining, irrigation, airports, and power sectors.”

ElectroMech

Tushar Mehendale
Mr. Tushar Mehendale, Managing Director, ElectroMech
ElectroMech is participating in bC India along with its joint venture partner for tower cranes, Zoomlion. They will be launching a new tower crane model that has been developed specifically for the Indian real estate construction sector at the show.

Describing in detail about the company’s plan for the show Mr. Tushar Mehendale, Managing Director, ElectroMech says, “We will showcase our gantry cranes which are widely used across the infrastructure and construction sector. Our innovation in the development of the high lift high speed tunnel mucking system which recently received the prestigious ‘Manufacturing Today Award for excellence in innovation’ will also be showcased at the show as this innovation is particularly relevant to this industry. Besides these, our joint venture partner Zoomlion is showcasing its range of tower cranes, being manufactured in India. Zoomlion is amongst the top 7 construction equipment manufacturers in the world and a world leader in tower cranes.

bC India is an excellent opportunity for companies in Construction, Infrastructure and Mining industry to display their products to their prospective customers. But most importantly, the event will also provide companies a global platform to communicate and learn from different industry experts. The event will be a huge opportunity for ElectroMech to create a new dimension by having a significant presence at bC India by showcasing its various product and service offerings to industries across various verticals.

Dwelling in detail about the company and its progression he states ElectroMech is a 33-year old company, which was established in 1979. “We have grown from strength to strength over the past few years, while expanding our products portfolio, manufacturing facilities and customer base. Our recent developments have been an infusion of private equity investment by Motilal Oswal Private Equity and a Joint venture agreement with Zoomlion, China for manufacturing and selling their range of tower cranes in India,” he informs.

He elaborated by saying that construction and infrastructure are the two major areas that ElectroMech caters to. The company’s Industrial cranes & hoists play a major role at major infrastructure sites while its Gantry cranes are used for precast segment yards and bridge constructions. Similarly, the specialized hoisting equipment are used for bridge launching girders etc.

Commenting on the Indian infrastructure sector and government proactive approach for its sustainable development he says the infra sector is one of the major and key contributors for the growth of lifting equipment industry in India. Infrastructure projects in India have proven to be the key drivers to support the industry in terms of growth. The government’s decision of investing $1 trillion in the sector has the potential to help in giving a ‘lift’ to lifting equipment industry.

As more infra projects are announced, the positive effects will cascade across industries in terms of rise in demand. Construction equipment, heavy engineering, cement, steel etc. will all grow and provide a much needed boost to other allied industries as well. We certainly expect to see demand rising over the coming financial year; however a target alone will not be enough for this much needed boost. The government needs to meet its own targets for expenditure as well as give impetus for the private sector to invest in infrastructure projects and create an environment that promotes raising funds for investment, he speaks up.

Shortly, the company would commence the production of the Tandem roller and Asphalt paver.

For the current market scenario he says, “We have been saying the timely implementation is the key to success of any project. But due to various factors like hurdles in land acquisition, environmental clearance, forest department clearances etc, the projects get delayed. Also there is reluctance from the non-banking financial institutions to provide finance to BOT projects. However, the existing scenario, although is not in a good shape but we will see a change in the near future with a positive trend increasing.”

Vinayak Gajendragad
Mr. Vinayak Gajendragad, Director–Indian operations, SICOMA
“Current economic condition is a challenge for the construction industry. It has seen its share of ups and downs and the fluctuation exchange prices add to the woe. In bC India, we would like to bring to the notice of our customers that since we have ready stock of the mixers and most of the mixers are currently being assembled in India, not only they are assured of faster deliveries but are also exempted from frequent exchange rates fluctuations,” informs Mr. Vinayak Gajendragad.

Sharing his view about the bC platform he added that as the market is subjected to the sentiments of the investors, such exhibitions will definitely bring those sentiments to vivification. Exhibitions bridge the gap between technology advancements and unawareness about those products. By participating in this exhibition, the company’s emphasis on customer centric approach will reach out to the visitors.

Talking about the company progression during slowdown he briefs, “Since the Indian economy was down for some time, larger projects went either into hibernation or were downgraded in the requirements. This has resulted in demand of smaller size concrete mixers. Since we are a customer-centric company, we immediately started focusing on manufacturing and providing smaller size planetary mixers for ready mix application. Passing on the cost advantage was the major objective in this effort, by localizing many of the components those were earlier imported. SMIPL has progressed ever since in sourcing local components and manufacturing smaller size planetary mixers for ready mix plants.”

Expressing his positive concern for the Indian CE industry he says, due to recent government policies in various sectors such as Aviation, Retail and Infrastructure, the demand trend has been on the positive side. This will help all construction equipment manufacturers in order to be back on track and we look forward to inclusive growth in our sector.

Nav Nirman Beam Technics

Mr. Bharat Patel, Manager Sales, Nav Nirman Beam
“We will showcase our entire range of products, developments and the Technical Support Programme at bC India 2013,” says Mr. Bharat Patel, Manager Sales, adding that this year our company has increased the marketing spent on direct client interaction platform i.e. bC India to find new clients and showcase the latest developments and offerings to all the visitors and also to get deep insights of the construction industry in the domestic as well as international geography.

Sharing his views on the demand trends of the CE market in 2013-14, he said that infrastructure is the backbone of any economy. Considering the fact that due to several structural challenges and the government pleothera, emphasis laid on this segment has been very less. But finally the government has taken a strong stance and committed to revive the economy back to normal and Infrastructure segment has been given importance through proper reforms and consensus. Hence the outlook for the CE market is much optimistic and will offer huge opportunity to the Companies associated with this.

Talking about Nav Nirman Beam Technics service to construction industry he said, “We are catering to the requirement of Formwork segment under which we manufacture Formwork H-Beams, H-16, H-20, and H-24 Beam, widely used in all the concrete shuttering areas of the Construction activities. Kaushik Engineering Works

Saumil Shah
Saumil Shah, Director Business Development, Kaushik Engineering Works
Riding on its success in domestic and overseas markets, almost 12 years old company, Kaushik Engineering Works, is looking for foreign partners for technical collaboration to further strengthen its products range. The company is going all out to cement its hold further by focusing on asphalt batch mix plants of higher capacity which are a better option than prevalent drum mix plants due to various environmental considerations. Simultaneously, it is all set to introduce exclusive dealership network for the sale and marketing its range of construction equipment, says Director Business Development, Saumil Shah.

Elaborating further he claimed adding that the company’s original product range includes asphalt equipment for making roads but subsequently entered into manufacturing equipment for concrete industry and has recently added Road Sweepers to its product line. Our current focus is on designing asphalt batch mix plants which are of higher capacity that can generate revenue five times more than the drum mix plant. Our engineers are working brilliantly on the design and it is hoped that they will finalize the same very shortly. Currently, it has no significant collaboration with outside partners but we are looking for foreign partners for technical collaborations on a joint venture module and are also looking for players to work with us on the basis of exclusive dealership agreements for sales in specific regions. We anticipate that implementation of either of the plans will lead to the firm possibilities for our future growth, he insisted.

Kaushik Engineering Works

He informed that most of the developed countries are using only batch-mix plants and are opposed to drum mix plants. We expect that it is also going to be the future of India as the country started growing and becoming more developed by the day. “Furthermore, with the upcoming government’s regulation it will become obligatory for big projects to use asphalt batch mix plants in stead of drum mix plants. So, developing our business in this area will become vital for our continued growth in the future.

In the recent past, we have seen India, Brazil and China emerging as major global players but now more companies are entering into the Indian market that means stiff competition in the near future. Small companies that are working in niche markets are always going to be around but medium sized companies like ours, are either going to disappear or will merge with the larger companies. Now, we have an option that either we should focus on a very specific area, working with a selected group of customers, or should grow rapidly to compete with the multinational companies and remain the decorator of our own destiny.

Kaushik is increasing its geographical presence not only in India but also in the overseas markets. At present, its products are exported to South Asian, African and Middle East countries and recently to Europe as well. The company entered into the European market by selling its plant in Poland. Around 50% of its products are sold in export market and it is aggressively promoting the sales of its products in the Latin American and Eastern European markets.

Kaushik Engineering Works
He further added that we have ISO 9001 certification which thoroughly ensures strict quality requirement. The materials that enter our factory go through an inspection as per our specification, and every material is inspected first against purchase order and then passed on to the store. During the manufacturing process our engineers inspect all machines under their control and the process continues till the end of the manufacturing cycle. We also send customer feedback forms once the plant is installed on site.

Environmental considerations are another important factor for the future. In India, the most popular method is wet dust type pollution control but in developed countries, a bag house type filter unit is used which is more effective as it can redirect what it collects back into the plant. India and other developing countries cannot yet afford this type of facility but as they move towards working with big plants like Asphalt Batch Mix Plants – they need to adopt bag house type filter units. Kaushik is setting up a Service Centre in Kenya to cater to African markets and has plans to set up Service Centre in other export region. Various technical services provided by the company are to support its products supported by its well established R&D setup including rendering, designing, and engineering support for its new Batch mix plant technology. The company’s future plan is to get maximum growth in the immediate future to take advantage of the current infrastructure boom, he concluded.

Commenting on their participation he informed that exhibitions like bC India is a unique opportunity for us to present our products and technologies to new potential customers. It would help us reconnect with our existing customers and personally meet them to analyze their problems if any and understand their new requirements. However, too many shows in frequent intervals have diluted the impact and enthusiasm of the visitors. Also, the quality of the visitors has improved though the total footfalls have reduced considerably. Moreover, the present subdued sentiment in Infrastructure investments in the country does not help matters.

Giving an overview on company progression and achievements he stated that Parijatha is the leader in Concrete Block, Paving tile and Terrazzo tile machinery in India and growing stronger by the day. The company is well-known in every nook and corner of the country for its excellent machines designed and manufactured taking into consideration Indian working conditions and customer preferences. It has set up the most modern manufacturing facility in Bangalore which can easily match international standards. “We have always strived to understand our customers’ needs from time to time and have been quick enough to match up to their needs by innovation and agility. More importantly Parijatha designs and manufactures plants which specifically cater to the Indian customers and also relates to a few other countries where we regularly export and makes up a substantial share of sales. Incidentally, we are also the biggest exporters of Block plants and Terrazzo tile plants in India till date,” he informed.

He quipped that Parijatha always strives to introduce innovative products and technologies since its inception and is very active in understanding customers’ specific needs and quickly launches smart products which are known for their simplicity, reliability, ease of maintenance and operation. This has led to their immense popularity among all their customers who keep adding on by the day.

Expecting good year ahead for Indian construction industry he avers that it is heartening to note that the Prime Minister announced a couple of months ago about releasing a substantial amount of funds for Infrastructure development all over the country. Sadly, this has still not been converted to any kind of concrete action and results are yet to be seen. Also, repeated scams and political uncertainty had affected investor confidence in the short-term. This has led to a fairly negative sentiment and most private investors are still holding their cards close to their chest and yet to announce fresh investments. Therefore, I feel the best is yet to come for the year and look forward to some kind of activity happening after March ‘13 though not in the scale we had seen in the last few years.

EPIC ECO

Rajesh Nambrath
Mr. Rajesh Nambrath, Director, INDIGO
Epic Eco Fiberglass Formwork Systems is technologically advanced, cost competitive composite Fiberglass Shuttering System which represents a revolution in the area of shuttering because of their lightness, simplicity, durability, solidity, resistance to temperature changes and their price competitiveness. One of the major advantages with these systems is that they offer simplification of shuttering with the same mechanical properties of other systems, says Mr. Rajesh Nambrath, Director, INDIGO.

Sharing about the products qualities he said that Epic Eco fiberglass formwork systems display excellent mechanical qualities since they can hold 60kN /m2, - 1200 psf of paneling. Epic Eco paneling systems are suitable for shuttering of foundations, shafts of all kinds, walls, Ceiling / Slab. The assembling time and disassembling time is so fast that, time is reduced by at least 1/4th. The product can be used for atleast 10 years repetitively that means about 1900-2000 uses without any maintenance costs.

Revealing their company’s main motto to participate at the show he said that as most of clients believe that the initial costs are high compared to the project cost and the existing system of formwork. Our key focus will be to encourage the customer to start using EPIC ECO and we are sure that once they use it, there is no looking back.

Elaborating further he said that as we are concern most for our clients, we introduce various sales models to our customers depending upon their expectations of the product and Return of Investments with respect to time. While marketing for our Formwork, we are also giving the customer a benefit of earning out of EPIC ECO, Back Hand Services so that they can make swift transition from existing to EPIC ECO. By customers, we mean all employees associated with product, not only the Purchase Manager or Project Manager, but also the Site Staff, Store Staff, Shuttering Staff. It is complete package, otherwise the customers would not come back to us again.

Divulging company’s rental model he said that its EPIC ECO RENTAL Model has fairly been accepted by most of construction companies. In the rental Model, the company also provides them an option to purchase the material. So it is like Pay as per use and purchase when you like it. We are confident that with the huge repetitive usages, which we guarantee and saving on time, lesser amount of Labor, that eventually the customer would purchase, provided other factors are not a deterrent.

Dwelling in details about their company progression since inception and future prospects he informed that Innovative Formwork like EPIC ECO, still have long way to go in Indian Construction Industry. Of course, we find in some regions there is a slowdown in Construction, but there is no change in the demand or Interests for EPIC ECO. As EPIC ECO in fact reduces the overall costs of formwork and Shuttering in a project, more customers are approaching us.

Hence, we plan to expand EPIC ECO system to larger parts in India. Since this system can go very well with the convectional system like wood, we see the good growth of at least 50% annually in remote areas in India, he avers.
