Year-End Review 2024: Progress Under PMAY-G and PMGSY

The Government of India has achieved significant milestones under its flagship rural development programs, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), aimed at improving rural housing and connectivity.
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G)
- Goal of “Housing for All”: PMAY-G targets the construction of 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities in rural areas by 2024.
- Progress: Out of the cumulative target of 3.33 crore houses, 3.22 crore houses have been sanctioned, and 2.68 crore houses completed as of December 30, 2024.
- Future Plans: Additional 2 crore rural houses to be constructed between FY 2024-25 and FY 2028-29 under the extended scheme, approved in August 2024.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
- Connectivity Milestone: 1,62,742 habitations (99.6% of eligible habitations as per the 2001 census) have been provided connectivity since the scheme's inception, including 242 habitations in 2024.
- Year 2024 Contributions:
- Road Length: 19,606 km of road length and 3,489 bridges constructed.
- Sanctions: Road projects totaling 21,854 km and 427 bridges approved.
- PMGSY-IV Launched: Approved in September 2024, targeting connectivity for 25,000 unconnected habitations by constructing 62,500 km all-weather roads, with an outlay of ₹70,125 crore.
- Innovative Technologies: 15,783 km of roads were constructed using green technologies like waste plastic, cold mix, and geo-textiles.

- Total expenditure of ₹3,30,891 crore (including state share) incurred since inception; ₹17,415 crore spent in 2024.
The continued focus on rural infrastructure development under these schemes is driving socio-economic transformation by ensuring housing, improved connectivity, and access to essential services for India’s rural population.
