Crane Topples at Mumbai Metro Line 2B Site in BKC During Construction Work

Crane-topples
A heavy crane toppled during metro construction work at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai early on Wednesday, causing traffic disruptions but no casualties.

According to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the incident occurred around 4:30 am during construction of the BKC station on Mumbai Metro Line 2B. A mobile crane weighing around 400 tonnes toppled while lifting a pre-cast beam, which also tilted during the incident.

Initial investigations indicate a mechanical failure in the lifting boom gear of one crane. The failure caused the load to shift to another crane, leading to the accident.

The work was being carried out by J. Kumar Infraprojects Limited. Authorities have deployed a 600-tonne crane to remove the toppled equipment and restore normalcy.

Traffic diversions were put in place in the area, with officials stating that efforts were underway to reopen the road within a few hours.
