NHAI unveils Rs. 14,000-cr e-way project

In order to bring the metropolitan city closer for travelers, NHAI, which has launched an ambitious coastal road project, has decided to extend the route upto the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway through Vasai and Virar. The mega project entailing an investment of Rs.14, 000-crore proposes to connect Marine Lines in the south to Kandivali with a 29.2 km road running along the coast in the north. Plans of its extension were recently announced by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the foundation stone for the first phase will be laid shortly. The entire process involves an acquisition of large quantities of private (7.24 acres) and government land (7.23 acres), the construction plans have been divided into three phases. The DPR has mentioned that the longest stretch (3.138 km) connecting Gurusamy Bridge and the exit point with 17.25 metre wide commands four-way corridor. Ancillary bridges which will be 13.65 meters wide are to be constructed at four points covering College and Sterling Road junction (202 metres), Uthamar Gandhi Road junction, Independence Day Park (219 metres) and NSK Road (477 metres) – allowing vehicles to join the elevated corridor, said official sources.
