Decks cleared for Rs. 16,000-cr IGI expansion

With the clearance by the expert panel of the Union environment ministry for environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies, decks have been cleared for the Rs. 16,000-cr expansion of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Delhi International Airport Pvt. Ltd, which handles the administration of the airport, has proposed the expansion of the airport and its operational facilities to raise passenger handling capacity from the current 62 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 109 mppa and cargo handling capacity of 1.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 2.2mtpa by 2034. The proposal also includes expansion of existing T1, T2, and T3 terminals and construction of a new terminal T4, and also expansion and construction of land-side facilities such as access roads, parking, bus staging, automatic passenger mover, and metro rail. In addition to this, air-side facilities such as runway, taxiways, aprons and other aeronautical facilities, cargo facilities, support facilities such as airport rescue and fire fighting (ARFF), fuel farms, administrative buildings, hotel, commercial establishments, flight catering facilities, administration buildings, power stations and commercial property development, said official sources.
