India’s Tallest Road Cable-Stayed Bridge Opens on Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link

Mumbai-Missing-Link
Mumbai Pune Expressway now features India’s tallest road cable-stayed bridge with the completion of the Missing Link Project, inaugurated by Devendra Fadnavis.

The 650-metre-long viaduct includes a 182-metre-high pylon, surpassing the height of the Bandra Worli Sea Link, making it the tallest bridge structure built for a road project in India. Constructed by Afcons Infrastructure Limited, the bridge is supported by 240 cables and designed with multiple carriageways to enable high-capacity traffic movement.

Located in the challenging Sahyadri terrain, the project involved complex engineering due to steep valleys, high wind speeds and difficult weather conditions. The bridge forms a key part of the expressway’s Missing Link section, improving safety and significantly enhancing connectivity between Mumbai and Pune by bypassing the Khandala Ghat stretch.
