Flash Flood Washes Away Newly Constructed Bailey Bridge in Uttarakhand's Niti Valley

The bridge, located on the Malari-Niti National Highway (NH-107B) connecting Jyotirmath (Joshimath) to the border region, collapsed around 5:45 pm following flash floods triggered by heavy upstream rainfall. A Border Roads Organisation (BRO) vehicle was also swept away in the strong current.
The bridge collapse has snapped road access to villages including Jumma and Niti, while vehicular movement has been suspended beyond Malari as a precaution. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has begun work on temporary restoration, with authorities expecting traffic connectivity to be restored within a day or two.
Search and rescue operations by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and district administration are underway. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations and ensure uninterrupted supply of food, medicines and other essential commodities to the affected villages. Authorities have also issued warnings advising people to stay away from rivers and low-lying areas as heavy rainfall continues and flash flood risks remain high across several districts of Uttarakhand.
