Portion of Rs 16 Crore Dehradun Bridge Caves In 16 Days After Opening

Officials attributed the collapse to heavy rainfall, which washed away soil beneath the approach road and created a cavity. Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to repair the damaged stretch and restore traffic.
PWD officials estimated the damage at around Rs 2 lakh. Since the project remains under the defect liability period, contractor Himalayan Construction will bear the entire cost of repairs and restoration.
The road, which connects Dehradun with Himachal Pradesh, had earlier been washed away during severe flooding in September 2025. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) subsequently handed over the stretch to the PWD for reconstruction.
