Maharashtra Govt Approves Plan to Build 145 Rail Overbridges in Three Years

High-Speed-rail
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government has approved a draft plan to construct 145 rail overbridges (ROBs) over the next three years, with the objective of eliminating railway level crossings across the state.

The announcement was made after Fadnavis, along with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated nine railway infrastructure projects developed by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail). These include four rail overbridges, four underpasses and one rail underpass across Nagpur, Sangli, Satara, Nashik and Amravati.

The Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at improving road safety by replacing railway level crossings with grade-separated infrastructure. He noted that railway level crossings account for a significant number of fatalities each year and said the state government, in coordination with the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will undertake the remaining projects through MahaRail.

Fadnavis added that the state government plans to raise funds through borrowings to complete the programme and make Maharashtra free of railway level crossings.
