Gujarat Opens Rs 175 Crore Cable-Stayed Flyover at Bhat Crossroads

The 1.48-km-long cable-stayed flyover has been jointly developed by the state's Roads and Buildings Department and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), with both agencies sharing the project cost equally. According to the state government, it is the first cable-stayed flyover constructed in an urban area of Gujarat.
The flyover has been built to ease congestion at Bhat Circle, a key junction on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Airport Road, which, along with the SP Ring Road, carries an estimated daily traffic volume of more than 1.93 lakh vehicles.
With the new flyover operational, traffic travelling between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will use the elevated structure, while vehicles on the SP Ring Road will pass beneath it, creating a two-level traffic system to improve traffic flow and reduce travel delays.
The project also includes six-lane service roads, comprising three lanes on each side, to facilitate smoother movement towards the SP Ring Road, Vadodara and Surat.
During the event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the existing bridge over the Narmada Main Canal between Koba Circle and Bhat Circle on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad corridor.
The Rs 48 crore project involves constructing new three-lane bridges on either side of the existing structure, expanding the crossing from six lanes to 12 lanes. The widening is expected to improve traffic capacity, reduce congestion and accommodate future traffic growth along the corridor.
