Boomer rigs work wonders for rail projects

For the Pragati Engineering and Rail Project, the Mumbai-based firm and incharge of the twin tube tunnel project of the Indian railways, boomer drill rigs are currently working wonders as one boomer drill rig is currently in operation and the second one will undertake drilling work from the other side of the proposed tunnel, official sources said, explaining that the twin tube tunnel will have the length of 1km, while the width and height would be 14m and 10m respectively. In the project up till now, 5m of drilling has been completed, which in turn will permit two-way traffic with separate tunnels for upward and downward journeys. According to the Manager, National Highways Authority of India, Palakkad, Ravishankar, drilling would become more challenging after the first 20m of proposed entrance for tunnel as the rocks become harder to crack. In the project, the player has deployed 200 skilled workers on site and the numbers would increase once the next boomer starts drilling from the other end and in addition, excavators are also being deployed for various purposes at the site, Pragati Engineering and Rail Project, Krishnam Raju, said.
