Assam awaits Rs. 3,000cr hi-tech infra

Infrastructure Projects in Assam
In their quest to build top class infrastructure within their jurisdictions, the state government in Assam and also the municipal committee of the state capital have prepared a roadmap to launch multiple infrastructure and sanitary projects in the area entailing an investment worth Rs. 3,000cr. As a matter of fact, these projects are in the pipeline and would be launched shortly after the elections to the state assembly are over. The key characteristics of these projects included establishment of amenity blocks with toilets, drinking water and first aid facility and bins with sensors, bamboo-haat training centres, vending zones, and pedestrianised areas involving an investment of about Rs 994cr. On this score, the funds would be generated from the Central and the State governments' resources including Rs 788 crore from convergence with Central and State schemes and that the remaining portion of the funds would be contributed as loans by the World Bank and also the contributions from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Among others, the projects included developing an integrated ICT application for an intelligent traffic system (which envisages GPS-enabled buses, mobile-tracking for public transport, solar panels on bus shelter rooftops, solar-powered charging stations, e-card payment in buses, smart street lights, interactive information boards, CCTV surveillance at traffic junctions), and a flood warning forecast system (which envisages water level monitoring in water bodies, sluice gates control system, real-time data analysis to provide flood forecast, system alerts, broadcast of recorded alarm messages to phones, and water quality management, said official sources.
