We continue to lead the transformation in the Mining and Construction Equipment sector with our indigenous manufacturing, digital innovation, and technologies to deliver high-performance equipment that is globally competitive.
Shantanu Roy, CMD
What are the key highlights of your participation at EXCON 2025?
EXCON has always been a significant platform for BEML. This year, we have taken up a prominent outdoor space of 684 sqm, where we will showcase our latest crawler dozer, motor grader, wheel loader, backhoe loader, and hydraulic excavator. These machines are powered by BS-V compliant engines, which deliver enhanced fuel efficiency and lower environmental impact. Our focus is on next-generation mobility, productivity, and sustainability for the global construction ecosystem. How are your products evolving in terms of their performance, fuel efficiency, safety, and technology adoption?
The Mining & Construction Equipment industry is moving swiftly toward a technology-driven future powered by digitalization, IoT, AI, and automation. At BEML, we are also making the shift to advanced, higher efficiency, and intelligent machines, with operational safety features. Our equipment is now equipped with centralized monitoring inside the operator cabin, fatigue monitoring capabilities, automatic fire detection and suppression, auto-lubrication, advanced health diagnostics, ROPS/FOPS-certified cabins, and comprehensive operator-assist systems, including rear-view technology. These enhancements are accelerating the transition toward smarter, safer, and more sustainable operations, while significantly improving the operational lifecycle value for our customers.
How do you see the Indian construction and mining equipment industry evolving in the next 3–5 years?
India is entering a pivotal phase of accelerated infrastructure development and industrial expansion. The demand for mining and construction equipment will be fueled by the fast-growing requirements of energy security, steel capacity enhancement, and cement and non-ferrous mineral production, alongside large-scale national infrastructure initiatives such as expressways, rail and metro rail networks, port modernization, irrigation expansion, and smart urban development. BEML is fully aligned with this national momentum.Through deep localization and indigenous innovation, we are strengthening our ability to deliver high-performance equipment that is globally competitive. Our strategy directly supports India’s economic vision and the transformative journey toward Viksit Bharat by 2047.

How do you view the current pace of decarbonisation in India’s Mining & Construction sector?
Decarbonisation is now a collective priority across businesses and governments, and the pace of transition in India is gaining strong traction. Regulatory advancements and a stronger sustainability consciousness among customers are propelling this change. We are championing the shift through the development of clean-energy mining solutions. We have designed and manufactured India’s own electrically powered excavators in the 180-ton and 100-ton class, as well as the country’s largest indigenously developed electric rope shovel with a 21-cubic-metre capacity. We continue to upgrade our existing product line with highly efficient propulsion technologies that comply with the latest emission standards.
Internally, we are progressing rapidly toward fulfilling all our electricity requirements through renewable energy, which further strengthens our standing as a responsible Green Company. With simulator-based training and reskilling programs, we are also ensuring that sustainability extends all the way to the operating environment, with more safety, more efficiency, and reduced emissions at project sites.
What role do innovation and R&D play in maintaining your competitive edge?
Innovation defines BEML’s leadership. Our world-class R&D infrastructure, supported by highly skilled engineering talent and comprehensive testing capabilities, empowers us to stay ahead of global advancements and customer needs. We focus on developing cutting-edge, indigenous technology solutions that deliver superior performance, improved operator comfort, digital intelligence, and environmental responsibility. This commitment to innovation strengthens the ‘Make in India’ movement and reinforces Atmanirbhar Bharat, enabling India to be technologically self-reliant in critical industrial capabilities. How is BEML leveraging the growing market potential for construction equipment?
The construction equipment market in India currently stands at approximately ₹45,000 crore annually, driven by the Government of India’s emphasis on infrastructure expansion. Recognizing this immense opportunity, we have established a dedicated Construction SBU to bring sharper focus, agility, and responsiveness to this high-growth segment. As part of our strategic roadmap, we are relaunching key products with enhanced features, performance upgrades, and competitive market positioning. We are also expanding our nationwide presence through a strengthened dealer network, aimed at improving customer accessibility and service coverage.
We are exploring opportunities in the export markets to broaden our global footprint and leverage BEML’s engineering expertise across international geographies. This combined approach will ensure that we not only meet domestic demand but also emerge as a strong Indian player in the global construction equipment landscape.
As we embrace innovation and growth at EXCON 2025, what words would you like to share with your customers, dealers, and partners?
Our customers and partners have always been our strongest driving force. Their trust inspires us to engineer excellence and continuously push boundaries. With a wide service and marketing footprint across the country, we remain dedicated to ensuring maximum equipment uptime and reliability through comprehensive support solutions. As we expand our portfolio of electrically driven and environmentally responsible machinery, we are also transitioning our own facilities toward renewable-energy-powered operations. This combined focus on innovation, service, and sustainability is preparing us for a future that is greener, smarter, and globally more competitive. I extend my deepest gratitude to every stakeholder who has supported the BEML journey. Together, we are shaping a better and more prosperous tomorrow.
