ELMAK Catering To The Tower Crane Ecosystem

Marvin Yang, Managing Director, is optimistic of growing acceptance of ELMAK tower cranes in the Indian market, especially in view of the company’s tie-up with Gujarat-based equipment manufacturer VENUS.

What is the strength of the ELMAK brand as a tower crane manufacturer?

ELMAK has been designing tower cranes since 2003 and also derrick cranes as per project requirements. Hence, ELMAK’s strength lies in designing tower cranes not based on fixed load charts but as per the specifications required by the customers’ jobsite.

Our design team is highly experienced, having worked with renowned tower crane brands and is capable of integrating new technologies along with the latest design features to produce high-quality tower cranes.

Where is ELMAK’s production facility located?

ELMAK’s manufacturing facility is located in Weihai, which was once the heart of tower crane production in China. Weihai is located in the industrial province of Shandong, and is strategically close to the Qingdao Port, which is also near our facility.

What are the major markets for ELMAK tower cranes?

As a largely export-based manufacturer of tower cranes, we are present in 25+ countries worldwide, including Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asean countries, Turkey, and Israel. These countries have been our leading markets since the company’s inception.

How do you perceive the Indian market?

The Indian real estate market seems to be going strong, especially over the past five years, and the forecast for future growth is also good. As per the 2047 vision of India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendar Modi, India is on the path to becoming a developed country. So, we see continued demand for the tower crane segment which is necessary for rapid development of urban infrastructure.

What new or innovative product has ELMAK introduced in the Indian market?

We have been getting a lot of enquiries for baby luffing cranes for the Indian market. Our baby luffing cranes are designed to have small masts, which makes them especially suitable for urban markets like Mumbai, Pune, etc. In fact, a few of our machines are already working in these cities. We have also been an OEM for other brands which have sold units in India and are working efficiently.

What are your current operations in India?

We have recently signed a co-operation agreement with leading construction equipment manufacturer VENUS from Gujarat for technology transfer and indigenous manufacturing. The VENUS-ELMAK joint venture will bring down the price of our machines, encourage use of local components, and generate employment for local skilled labour, giving us a competitive edge in the Indian market.

We are also associated with leading rental companies for sourcing spare parts for their fleet and we provide spares for multi-brand tower cranes as well.

Since we are getting a good response for our cranes, we plan to expand our business in India.
