Shandong Heavy Industry Launches New Range of WP Series Engines

Gurunath M Kulkarni, Vice President – India Operations informed, “The full authority electronic engines deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency. The higher torque with high power to weight ratio results in lower cost of ownership. The combustion chamber of the engines along with the turbo chargers have been designed for optimized performance. They have a heavy-duty air cleaner and easy to clean filters, and based on feedback from the customers, the engines are now insulated against vibrations.”
For mining tipper trucks, the company unveiled its WP14 T and WP 17T. Mr. Kulkarni stated that the new 4-stroke engines are globally acclaimed for their reliable performance and are being provided to OEMs like XCMG, and Sany Heavy Industries India. One of the key attributes of these engines is reliability. These are engineered to be more durable and fuel-efficient. Both are four-stroke diesel engines and are significantly more compact than competing products, allowing them to occupy less space within the vehicle. This compactness also provides greater flexibility during vehicle integration.”

He added, “In terms of payload capacity, the WP-14T is designed for 110-ton applications, whereas the WP-17 is targeted at 130-ton payloads. These engines deliver strong performance at peak torque, enabling them to achieve a faster duty cycle—approximately 1.2 to 1.3 times higher work output compared to other trucks in the same category (as per our internal assessment). For integration into mining trucks, due to the dusty environment, we provide easy to clean, heavy-duty air cleaners.
He further mentioned that Weichai India is targeting back-hoe loader & Wheel loader segment with WP 3.6N and excavator & grader segment with WP 4.6N. Both of these engines are CVE Stage V compliant and ensure lower emission without compromising on the fuel efficiency or engine performance.
Currently, company will continue to get the engines as CKDs, assemble and test them locally in our Pune plant. However, going further, local Sourcing & manufacturing is under feasibility study stage and soon Weichai can come up with engines which are indigenous.
