Next Gen Compressors and Light Towers from Atlas Copco
Tony Van Herbruggen, General Manager, and S. Kumar, Business Line Manager, Atlas Copco Power Technique, Portable Air Division, share information on the company’s new technologically advanced products.
What new product has Atlas Copco launched recently?
We have launched four new generation portable air compressors and extended range of light towers. The products have been designed and developed by incorporating the best design that meets the operational challenges in India, both for quarries and general-purpose applications, plus they come with more compact engines.
The new compressors include the XAWS 550 PACE and the XRH 1100 PLUS, which are custom engineered, highly fuel efficient, and made for specialized applications like water well drilling, foundation drilling, coal mining and blast hole drilling.
XAV 216 Plus portable air compressor with four variants, is also a new technology in the 450-600 cfm range, used for a wide range of applications. A more efficient cooling system makes this compressor the best in class for higher output in mining applications.
We also introduced our XA 187 Plus portable air compressor and an upgraded version of the current XA 187 model. All these new compressors feature ease of maintenance, and have a sleek canopy, a new separator design and single side service, and common drainage points.
What are the benefits of the Pace technology that Atlas Copco has used in these new compressors?
The new generation compressors come with ‘Pace’ technology that enable the compressors to automatically adjust to the operating conditions. The XAWS 550 Pace enables customers to pick the pressure using the Pace technology.
Pace is essentially pressure adjusted through cognitive electronics. This is the first of its kind technology in the portable air compressor segment, where pressure can be set with the XC 2003 digital controller in three simple steps. The key feature of the Pace technology is that the compressor comes with a wide pressure range of 6 to15 bars, and a highly efficient screw element.
Pace technology gives 8 percent more fuel efficiency with additional benefits like ease of maintenance due to the new separator design and single sideservice. The benefits of Pace technology can be extended to breaker application, jack hammer application and also for blasting, where there are frequent requirements to adjust pressure, depending on the rock surface strata. Since the pressure can be automatically adjusted, it leads to higher availability and optimum utilization of the compressor.
Please tell us about the new Light Towers for application in road construction.
We are keen to cater to the road construction industry for which we have showcased Hi Light V4+ and V5+ LED light towers that can illuminate an area of 4000 to 5000 sqm with an average brightness of 20 lux. This makes them most suitable for road and highway projects. With the launch of theupgraded HiLight V4+ LED light tower, the light range now extends from 250 W to 350 W. It is the first CPCB II compliant for the entire light towers in India. Hardhat® canopy ensures robustness, no rusting and higher resale value. It gives fuel savings of up to 50% compared to metal halide. The LED lamps are made as per IK08 and IP67 standards.
What initiative is the company taking to improve the performance of its machines?
To ensure optimum performance of our new machines, we are digitalizing the operating parameters of the machines for better performance, along with preventive and predictive maintenance. We are also strengthening our product support by making available to our customers genuine parts, besides providing operational and maintenance training to the support teams of the company and of our dealers.
With our highly innovative design, compact engines, advanced solutions, and our reliable product support, Atlas Copco’s PowerTechnique Division has been witnessing steady growth despite the current challenging market conditions.
