ExxonMobil’s Mobil-branded All-purposes Industrial Lubricants and Greases
For over 12 decades, ExxonMobil’s advanced technology lubricants and greases have been serving the diverse needs of customers in a range of industries. It has been marketing and delivering its premium products in nearly 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Mobil Industrial Lubricants is a business of ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants and Specialties Marketing Company, a core entity of ExxonMobil (Corporation). Today, Mobil Industrial Lubricants are used extensively in many industrial market sectors - including power generation, general manufacturing, metal working, food and beverage processing, pulp and paper, cement, construction, metals and mining. As a pioneer of synthetic lubricant technology, ExxonMobil offers industry-proven lubricants that boost productivity, enhance performance and life of equipment, increases profitability and reduces downtime. This has been ExxonMobil’s USP to stay ahead of the competition, said Mr. Paul Grives, Global Industrial Marketing Advisor, ExxonMobil’s Fuels, Lubricants and Specialties Marketing Company in his interaction with S. K Khanna.

Recently, Mr. Paul Grives was in Delhi on his way to attend the 14th annual Lubricating Grease Conference held in Jaipur. Organized by the Indian chapter of the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI), the conference is a premier event for grease–related industry stakeholders in India. Excited on his participation at the conference, Mr. Grives said, “We look forward to participating in this year’s Lubricating Grease Conference as a way to demonstrate our support for NLGI India, to educate attendees about the advanced technology behind our Mobil-branded greases and provide valuable maintenance tips to help companies select and properly use the right grease technologies”.

In his current role, Mr. Grives oversees the marketing and product development of the company’s industrial grease portfolio. A frequent author and guest speaker on industrial greases, he is a member of the NLGI since 1990 and has been serving on the NLGI board of director since 2009.

Providing an overview of global industrial grease market, Mr. Grives highlighted that the global grease market was pegged at one million metric tons a year. As per recent data released by NLGI, India, an important grease market, is over 100,000 metric tonnes per year, which is approximately 8 - 10% of total worldwide volume. Again, unlike other major countries where demand of lubricants has witnessed stagnation, Indian lubricant market has posed a 5-7% growth. With its fast growing economy and high infrastructure development pace, the Indian grease market is set to grow further and is a priority market based on its size and rapid growth. It’s also an epicenter for leading original equipment manufacturers and component builders. ExxonMobil enjoys an established legacy of working side-by-side with the leading OEMs and component builders located in the country.

Mobil-branded greases are specially designed to meet a wide variety of operating conditions in both industrial and mobile equipment. These conditions include very high and low temperatures, water contamination, heavy or shock loads, and variable speeds. Mobil greases are available in a range of viscosity grades to offer customers added choice and flexibility.

ExxonMobil’s Mobil-branded All-purposes Industrial Lubricants and Greases
Among the many popular types of grease offered by ExxonMobil to customers in India include: Mobil SHC Polyrex- a family of high performance synthetic greases that are capable of delivering exceptional equipment protection even under temperatures as high as 170 degrees Celsius.

Mobilith SHC – synthetic high-temperature greases for use in plain and rolling element bearings, kiln roller bearings and in slag transfer rail car bearings, grease filled industrial gear cases subject to high temperatures, where conventional semi fluid greases will not provide acceptable lubricant life and in non-driven heavy-duty truck trailer wheel hubs.

Mobil Centaur XHP- a family of calcium sulfonate greases that deliver a balanced combination of water washout and water spray-off resistance, as well as excellent corrosion protection, in these severe wet environments, making them ideal for steel and mill equipment.

Mobilgrease XHP- multipurpose lithium complex greases that are designed to deliver exceptional performance for a wide range of applications and operating conditions, including high temperatures, water contamination and shock loading and extended re-lubrication.

These diverse line–up of the greases are being relied upon by successful companies across India that operate in a range of sectors, including automotives, aviation, construction, energy, general manufacturing, steel, cement and mining, explained Mr. Grives giving interesting examples of application of greases on wind mill turbines, Formula One Car engines and spacecrafts protecting vital parts during the interaction.

Talking about company’s focus on R&D, he added that as a company, ExxonMobil places an enormous emphasis on ongoing investment in R&D, working side-by-side with the world’s leading OEMs to develop the most effective products and maintenance solutions. Its highly experienced engineers and experts work closely with OEMs and construction experts to have an insight into their new technology and lubricating requirements. “We do not just sell greases, but also we work with industry to ensure that have the proper technical support. Corporation’s global network of sales staff, field engineers and distributors work directly with the industry to provided lubricant technology inputs and expertise, and training so as to provide better equipment protection and extended grease life, and enable trouble-free operations, drive up productivity and help their businesses.”

Participating in the discussion Mr. Shankar Karnik, Industrial Marketing Advisor, AP Zone, ExxonMobil’s Fuels, Lubricants and Specialties Marketing Company, highlighted that ExxonMobil has been operating in India for the last 18 years. Since 2002, ExxonMobil Lubricants Private Ltd. became a separate entity with its own distribution network on pan India basis to distribute and market ExxonMobil products and services of consistent quality that customer can trust.

With ExxonMobil’s robust distributor network in India and team of technical experts, ExxonMobil continues to extend their leadership in this marketplace, helping their customers enhance productivity and efficiency.

The range of PES (planned engineering services) provided by ExxonMobil includes lubricant evaluations and audits, equipment checks, and more. ExxonMobil expert’s advices are always available from its on-site engineers and related technical resources. ExxonMobil offers a wide range of aftermarket services that include:
  • Signum used oil analysis and interpretation
