How is GS Caltex meeting the demand for high-performance lubricants that enhance efficiency, withstand heavy loads, and extend equipment life?

As India’s construction and mining sectors evolve with more sophisticated, emission-compliant, and high-productivity equipment, lubricant technology must keep pace. GS Caltex India, a subsidiary of GS Caltex Corporation (South Korea), has positioned itself at the forefront of this transformation with its premium Kixx range of lubricants and a growing network of OEM partnerships. We use Group II and III base oils (Kixx Lubo) and advanced additive systems to provide superior wear protection, oxidation control, and extended drain intervals. These properties are essential for equipment working in extreme heat, dust, and heavy-load environments.

Our application engineers work closely with OEMs and end-users to ensure the right lubricant is used for the right condition. This service-oriented approach has helped customers increase uptime and reduce total cost of ownership.

What R&D is your company doing to develop special additives, bio-based base oils, and closed-loop re-refining systems to ensure future readiness in both performance and sustainability?

GS-Caltex
Our global R&D center in Yeosu, South Korea, focuses on next-generation lubricant technologies that anticipate future equipment demands. We are developing special synthetic additive formulations that strengthen protective films and enhance friction control. At the same time, we’re exploring closed-loop re-refining systems and resource-efficiency programs to extend lubricant life and minimize waste. These initiatives help us maintain a balance between performance excellence and operational responsibility, ensuring that GS Caltex lubricants remain future-ready, durable, and dependable.

Stricter emission norms have redefined what modern lubricants must deliver. Through joint development programs with global and Indian OEMs, we’ve introduced products that are Stage V and CEV IV/V ready.

Our new Kixx HDX Euro FA-4 5W-30 is a prime example. It is designed for high-efficiency diesel engines fitted with DPF and SCR systems, offering low-SAPS chemistry, excellent oxidation resistance, and improved fuel economy. This collaboration ensures our products are tested and validated under real-world Indian conditions, providing both regulatory compliance and measurable operational savings for OEM partners.

What product innovations/technology advancements has GS Caltex introduced to enhance lubricant reliability, thermal stability, and long-term performance in India’s varied environments?

India’s varied operating conditions are unlike any other market — from sub-zero highlands to scorching quarries. Our formulations are developed with thermal stability and load endurance as core design criteria.

We’re introducing Kixx Trans C4 SAE 50, a high-performance transmission oil for powershift and heavy-duty construction equipment. It ensures frictional stability, smooth clutch engagement, and oxidation resistance under extreme stress.

Complementing it, Kixx HDX Euro FA-4 5W-30 provides strong wear protection and fuel efficiency for next-generation engines. Our Kixx Hydro HVL and Kixx Hydro AF lines deliver outstanding viscosity retention for precision hydraulics. Together, these innovations guarantee consistent reliability and long-term performance in India’s harshest environments.

With the growing shift toward electric and hybrid equipment, how do you see the impact of electrification on the lubricant industry?

Electrification is still emerging in the off-highway segment, but it will certainly influence lubrication needs. While traditional engine oils may reduce in volume, there will be growing demand for specialty transmission and axle fluids designed for electric drivetrains.

Our R&D is focusing on formulations that offer superior thermal stability, material compatibility, and reduced frictional losses, ensuring smooth power transfer and durability in future electric and hybrid systems. GS Caltex will be ready with these specialized solutions as the Indian market adopts new technologies focusing on EV Transmission and Coolants.

How is GS Caltex supporting low-carbon, zero-emission operations and products in the lubricant industry?

Sustainability is embedded in our strategy. We design lubricants for longer drain intervals, reducing oil consumption and maintenance waste. In parallel, we are developing used-oil recovery and re-refining collaborations to extend product life and reduce environmental impact. Our supply chain and packaging systems are continuously optimized for energy efficiency and recyclability. These actions reflect our belief that a lubricant’s true value lies in its lifecycle impact.
