Built in India, Powered by Japanese Technology: Yanmar’s 100,000-Engine Milestone

India has emerged as a key growth market for Yanmar’s industrial engine business, driven by increasing demand for reliable, compact, and fuel-efficient power solutions in the construction and infrastructure sectors. Today, Yanmar supplies engines to leading OEMs such as Tata Hitachi, Wirtgen, Manitou, and several other prominent construction equipment manufacturers in India. Its engines are tailored to specific machine applications, ensuring optimal performance across a wide range of operating conditions.
Commenting on the market momentum, Yashpal Wadhwa, Associate Vice President – Industrial Engines Sales, said, “Over the past five years, we have witnessed strong growth in demand for Yanmar engines in India, particularly in segments such as mini excavators, skid steer loaders, and mini compactors. This growth is driven by the compact design, robustness, fuel efficiency, and seamless integration of our engines with customer machines.”
He further shared that Yanmar is gearing up to commence local production of Stage V engines in India, with a strong focus on meeting OEM-specific application requirements. This initiative will be supported by intensive R&D efforts and a robust after-sales ecosystem.
“While integrating engines across different OEM platforms can be challenging due to variations in layout and design standards, we are confident of addressing these requirements through engineering customization,” Wadhwa added.
Highlighting Yanmar’s collaborative approach, Mr. Tokudome Naoyuki, Vice President – Industrial Engines Sales, emphasized the importance of early-stage engagement with customers.
“Our engagement with OEMs begins early in the development cycle. Our India R&D and Application Engineering teams work closely with customers to ensure the right balance between engine performance, packaging, emission compliance, and application needs. This enables us to develop India-specific engines that also meet the expectations of global customers operating in the country.”
He also noted that Yanmar is now ready to offer emission-compliant engines for 20-ton excavators and other off-highway applications, further expanding its product portfolio in line with evolving regulatory and market requirements.
To ensure long-term customer confidence, Yanmar supports machines powered by its engines through a comprehensive service network covering a 200-kilometre operational radius, complemented by its own service channels and dealer network. This is further strengthened by Yanmar’s global warranty support, enabling OEMs to seamlessly export equipment powered by Yanmar engines.
As Yanmar approaches the 100,000-engine milestone, the company continues to reinforce its position as a trusted partner for OEMs in India—combining Japanese engineering excellence with local manufacturing, application expertise, and a strong service backbone to power India’s growing construction and industrial landscape.
