What strategies will define competitiveness in India’s fast growing construction equipment market?

India’s construction equipment market is entering a new phase of maturity, marked by higher performance expectations and stronger demand for value-driven solutions. This growth is driven by large infrastructure investments, rising private participation, and wider adoption of modern construction technologies. As projects grow in scale and complexity, customers are placing greater emphasis on long-term value, prioritizing total cost of ownership, machine reliability, fuel efficiency, and digital integration.

In this landscape, competitiveness will be defined by three core areas of expertise: delivering machines with proven durability, efficiency, and low operating cost; using telematics, analytics, and connected solutions to enhance uptime, operator performance, and project management; and ensuring a responsive local network for faster support, reliable parts availability, and easier ownership.

Companies that combine global engineering quality with localized manufacturing, strong after-sales service, and accessible financing will gain a clear competitive edge, and being perceived as trusted partners in India’s infrastructure growth story.

With a strong presence in India and operations globally, how is your company leveraging local production, integrating international technologies, and expanding exports to stay competitive both in the Indian market and worldwide?

HD-hyundai
We follow a “global technology, local execution” approach. Our India operations focus on local assembly and increasing component localisation to meet customer needs, shorten lead times, and make machines more cost-competitive. At the same time, we integrate proven international technologies, advanced hydraulics, telematics, and engine control systems into locally built models such as the SMART X Plus Series and BS-V Wheel Loaders. This combination improves product relevance for Indian job sites while preserving global quality standards.

As regards exports, India serves as both a market and a manufacturing hub: by ramping up local production and meeting international regulatory and quality benchmarks, HD Hyundai India is expanding its export volumes to neighbouring markets and global customers.

What measures is HD Hyundai India taking towards energy efficiency, recycling, and waste utilisation?

We are focused on energy-efficient technologies and lifecycle improvements that reduce fuel use and emissions, while enabling future low-carbon transitions. Our BS-V compliant engines and improved transmission and hydraulic systems deliver measurable fuel savings, and telematics-driven fuel-optimisation features help operators reduce consumption.

As regards lifecycle and circularity, we are expanding our parts re-manufacturing, standardising components to ease repair and reuse, and improving maintenance regimes to extend the service life of our machines and reduce wastage. The broader industry can contribute by adopting cleaner engine standards, promoting re-manufacturing and parts reuse, and leveraging telematics and data analytics to optimise fleet utilisation to reduce unnecessary idling and fuel waste.

What initiatives has your company taken to promote inclusivity, diversity, and skill development within its workforce and in its dealers?

We invest in practical, on-ground skill development and inclusive hiring to build a diverse and capable workforce. Our dealer and operator training programs, conducted in partnership with accredited training bodies and local institutes, focus on safe operation, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance — enabling technicians and operators from varied backgrounds to work confidently and efficiently.

We also run targeted upskilling initiatives across our dealer network to help smaller partners adopt digital tools and standardized service practices. In addition, HD Hyundai drives inclusivity and leadership growth through its initiatives such as Takashila, LEAD, Second Generation Training, and Excelerating (Dealer AMPS team conference), etc. These programs focus on capability building, leadership development, and collaboration, ensuring equal opportunities and fostering a culture of continuous learning across the HD Hyundai ecosystem.

How is your company reinforcing customer trust and loyalty?

Trust is built through predictable performance and transparent engagement. We reinforce this through an accessible service network, clear warranty policies, and well-defined maintenance programs, supported by remote monitoring tools that provide customers with real-time, objective machine data. Platforms like Hi Mate offer predictive alerts and usage reports, enabling customers to plan maintenance, reduce downtime, and verify machine health with confidence.

Our dealer-led support model ensures quick spare-parts availability, scheduled service programs, and open communication, while regular training helps customers maximize equipment performance. Through guided plant visits and direct interactions with our Production, R&D, and After-Sales Support teams, customers gain first-hand insight into how we ensure reliability, performance, and long-term support from the shop floor to the job site. These practical, transparent measures are what truly build lasting trust and customer loyalty.
