11th Editon of EXCON concludes with high business volume and footfalls despite the rain playing spoiler
You can’t always have picture perfect conditions, especially when the rain chooses to pour relentlessly, unmindful of the fact that you have set the stage in an outdoor area.
Yet, the rain could not wash away the enthusiasm at the event, even when it flooded the open area on Day 1 for four hours and CII decided to suspend Day 2 activities. Infrastructure construction is serious business; it must go on - come rain, hail, or sunshine. We cannot be diverted by the infrastructure crumbling due to the inclement weather and must continue to focus on the reason why we are at Asia’s largest trade event on construction machinery; and what we hope to accomplish here.
There was an impressive foreign participation of over 100 companies from countries like USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, UAE, South Korea, Czech Republic, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. The visitors, undeterred by the slush, thronged the booths indoors and outdoors, to see the new products and understand the technological improvisations being made.
Even the outdoor exhibitors reported good business enquires and deals. Commented Prakash Pai, a veteran of CE industry and CMD of Puzzolana: “Despite all the odds, Excon lived up to its reputation. We were up all night dismantling our stand and putting up tents in knee-deep rainwater. But, in the end, we did good business in terms of volume and visitor footfall.”
A big contractor and quarry owner from Pune, Pawan Behde said: “What mud? this is our daily life; we are used to walking on muddy project sites. We have come here to find solutions for our upcoming projects and the OEMs are showcasing the best of their innovations and are offering proven solutions; so, we have not been disappointed.”
The Managing Director of Manitou, Hafeez Khan who participated for the first time at Excon said, “Nothing could stop us, not even the rain. Amidst the heavy rain showers, we happily engaged with our customers and generated many new enquiries.”
EXCON is perceived as a truly international trade show, attracting over 53,000 people from across India and the world. It generates crores of rupee in tax collection in just five days and contributes immensely to Bangalore’s economy. Moreover, it has a record of generating over 2000 crore worth of business enquiries as it is a platform for businesses to identify new dealers and distributors. It is also a launching pad for new products and technologies.
NBM&CW spoke with over 100 exhibitors and 200 visitors on their experience at EXCON. A vast majority expressed satisfaction with the product displays and the business enquiries their products had generated, and were much enlightened by the various conferences and special booths giving information on Alternate Fuels, Defence & Para Military, Components, Artificial Intelligence, Finance, Women in CE Industry etc.
In conclusion, business-wise EXCON, as always, lived up to its reputation, even though this time it fell a little short of providing world-class experience to the exhibitors and visitors due to the unprecedented rains. Let’s hope that in the next edition (December 2023), we will be better prepared for any eventuality.
