Railway unveils Rs. 1,491cr bridge project

Ircon, a wing of Indian Railways, will execute the project, railway sources said elaborating that the new rail bridge, for which PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation through remote control from Hajipur in Bihar recenlty will have double lines. The length of the bridge will be about 1.9km. For executing the project, railways will have to lay new lines in a stretch of about 14km near Mokama rail bridge to provide connectivity to both Up and Dn lines.
Another bridge at Mokama is badly needed for smooth traffic and this bridge is likely to be a lifeline for the people living in the area at Rampur Dumra and Barauni ends where the old bridge. Thus, railways will have to build a parallel rail bridge on the Ganga with modern technology. According to sources, railways has also been building a new bridge parallel to the existing one at Kiul at an estimated cost of Rs. 100cr. The new bridge is likely to streamline the running of both passenger and goods trains. While the length of the bridge will be about 600 metres, new platforms at Kiul will have the length to accommodate mail and express trains with the load combination of 24 coaches, they added.
