Punjab pushes ₹965 cr infra around Kartarpur Corridor

Kartarpur Corridor
Close on the heels of launching Dera Baba Nanak-Kartarpur Sahib Corridor by the Centre in the Gurdaspur district, the state government in Punjab announced infrastructure projects worth ₹965 crore for the holistic development of the historic Dera Baba Nanak town and adjoining areas of the district. The targeted funds will be invested on building top class road and drain network together pathways with allied infrastructure across the district. This is a part of the year-long celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary. The Kartarpur Corridor, which will be built by the National Highway Authority of India, would facilitate Sikh pilgrims in visiting the 16th-century Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. The gurdwara, on the banks of Ravi river has historical significance for Sikhs as Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, spent 18 years of his life there. Established by the Sikh Guru in 1522, it is about three-four km from the international border from the Indian side and the opening a corridor to the historical shrine was a long-pending demand of Sikhs.
