The state government in Punjab has recently announced that roads across the state would be upgraded in the next one year, State, PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla, said detailing that the Punjab government was committed to provide better road facilities in the state. 2000 km of new roads are currently being constructed at a cost of ₹1,200 crore. In this connection, tenders were floated for 71 roads under NABARD at a cost of ₹3.25 crore and the sanction for construction and strengthening of roads under the Central Road Fund at a cost of ₹5.25 crore is also in the pipeline. In addition, the PWD department is simultaneously spending Rs 400 crore on the construction of new roads, besides upgrading the existing ones. The work on strengthening and widening of various roads as well as laying premix is under progress and is being accomplished by modern construction techniques.
