Partially Built NH-27 Bridge Collapses in Assam’s Dima Hasao, Probe Ordered

Assam-NH27-Collapse
A partially constructed bridge on National Highway 27 in Assam’s Dima Hasao district collapsed on February 22 at Dolai Chunga in the Harangajao area. The structure was part of the ongoing Nrimbanglo–Harangajao road project, a key route connecting remote parts of the hill district. Authorities confirmed that the bridge was still under construction when a section gave way.

According to reports, a portion of the bridge fell along with concrete slabs and construction materials. One worker was injured and received immediate medical treatment at a local facility. No fatalities were reported.

Officials have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the cause of the collapse. The Nrimbanglo–Harangajao stretch is considered vital for improving connectivity in Dima Hasao, where difficult terrain has historically hampered transportation. The bridge forms part of broader efforts to strengthen road infrastructure in Assam’s hill districts and improve regional links.
