NHAI kick-starts ₹6,371-cr highway widening in Chennai

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started the ground work for widening of the Chennai-Trichy national highway between Tambaram and Tindivanam at a cost of ₹6,371 crore. A six-lane elevated corridor is being developed for 24.5 km between Tambaram and Chengalpattu at a cost of ₹3,309 crore. The 68.5 km Chengalpattu - Tindivanam stretch will be widened into eight lanes at an investment of ₹3,062 crore. The 93 km Tambaram - Tindivanam stretch - Tiruchy NH carries more than 90,000 vehicles a day and causes huge congestione especialy during weekends and festivals. The NHAI has invited pre-qualification bidders for developing the two stretches through PPP on Design Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis.
