New four-lane signal-free corridor to KIA

four-lane signal-free corridor
The Karnataka government has planned to widen the Bengaluru-Tumkur highway up to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) connecting the districts via a 32 km long four-lane signal-free corridor costing ₹310 crore. The road which branches off the Bengaluru-Tumkur highway from Nelamangala is connected to KIA via Madhure and Rajanakunte. KC Ashwath Kumar informed that the road work is on and is expected it to be completed in 30 months. Once ready, commuters from Hassan Road, Tumkur Road, Magadi and Nelamangala can take this road to reach the airport, instead of passing via Bengaluru city and taking the congested Outer Ring Road. The work has been divided into three packages; Nelamangala to Madhure (15 km), Madhure to Rajanukunte (15 km) and Rajanukunte to KIA Road (nine km), and a new railway overbridge at Narayanapura and the extension of the current railway over bridge, extending to the Tank Bund Road. This road will also be a bypass for the traffic from Hassan, Tumkur roads to Hyderabad Road as crossing the ORR to reach the airport takes two hours due to the heavy congestion.
