MMRDA unveils skyscrapers at BKC complex

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has unveiled a long term plan for the integrated redevelopment of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) starting with E Block. The entire region will have buildings with height up to 80 metres housing about 25-30 storeys each. The plan includes redevelopment of buildings into skyscrapers and connecting them with elevated walkways; gardens at podium levels, sky gardens, improved recreational facilities, a pedestrian plaza and a pedestrian bridge across the Mithi River. In the process, the redevelopment will help generate funds for financing various infrastructure projects in the Metropolitan Region by earning revenue to the tune of ₹18,000 crore for the nodal agency. There are 35 commercial and residential buildings in E Block that will soon be listed for redevelopment including offices of central and state government bodies, as well as private organizations and multi-national corporations, said metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, RA Rajeev. The agency intends to connect all these buildings with pathways and a travelators. This inter connectivity will ensure that people going from one building to another will not have to come out on the road. The Diamond Bourse has already approached MMRDA to connect their building with the BKC metro station falling on Metro-2B.
