MMRDA deploys drones for metro sites' surveillance

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
Construction sites of metro projects across the city will be under constant surveillance as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) authorities have decided to fly drones to keep a check on the sites. In this connection, a war room has been developed in the MMRDA building to monitor these projects and that the CM has already inaugurated the war room recently. The war room will have staff keeping an eye on the projects round the clock, said, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, R.A. Rajeev, adding that drones will be flown above construction sites in a frequency of once a week. In this connection, permission from the Mumbai police is under process. Currently, works of four Metro projects — Metro 2A (DN Nagar to Dahisar), Metro 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale), Metro 7 (Andheri east to Dahisar east) and Metro 4 (Wadala to Kasarwadavali) — have started on ground. Around 60% of the civil works has been completed of Line 2A and Line 7. The MMRDA had used drones to survey and map out the alignment of corridors and to curb a spate of illegal constructions. But now it is using drones for monitoring construction works and workers’ real-time to ensure watch on contractors.
