Karnataka cruises ahead building ₹36,000 cr road network

The state government in Karnataka has drawn an ambitious plan to start work on 50 national highway (NH) projects across the state at a cost of ₹36,000 crore, CM said in an official statement, adding that the state decided to convert 3,463 km stretch of road from four-lane to six-lane, out of the 7,756 km of national highways in the state. It has directed the concerned departments to get the necessary clearance from forest, revenue and energy departments to implement the plan. The projects are being taken up in the districts of Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Kalaburagi, Hassan and Ballary for which NHAI will extend financial assistance to these projects and the state government will acquire the necessary land for the same. Around ₹8,000 crore will be spent for the land acquisition for the said projects on the 10-lane road between Bengaluru and Mysuru. This project is being taken up at a cost of ₹7,000 crore where in the first phase, 52.7 km of road will be built at a cost of ₹3,890 crore and 61.1 km of road will be completed in the second phase at a cost of ₹3,300 crore, the CM claimed.
