J&K clears Chushul-Demchok road project

Chushul Demchok Road Project
In a bid to match road infrastructure exactly to that of built by China across the LAC, Jammu and Kashmir government has recently cleared the construction of 150 km long Chushul-Demchok road project on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), connecting the state with China as this spot is the last inhabited space on the LAC, said sources. Adding that the forest department officials in the state government has approved the Chusmule-Dungti-Fukche-Demchok road venture. The road's alignment does not have any trees and no significant damage to the environment and the project would be constructed by the Border Roads Organisation. It may be recalled that in 2009 China had objected work on this road stretch, when it was being built under Centrally-sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which was to connect two villages on Sino-Indian border in Demchok area.
