BMRC plans 102km Phase-III expansion

Adding to its existing 156km length of metro network, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has decided to add 102km length to cater to the increasing numbers of commuters in the third phase of the Metro project. In this connection, the feasibility study has been carried out by the railway subsidiary RITES to connect crucial traffic junctions like Silk Board Junction to KR Puram as well as the airport link. There are five routes to connect the city with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) but a final decision is yet to be taken. In addition, to connect Hebbal along Ballari road, there will be a high-speed rail track, director, rolling stock and operations, BMRC, N M Dhoke, said. Adding that the RITES feasibility study is complete but the cabinet has to approve the project before BMRC carried out the detailed project report according to which the Centre will approve and sanction funds, he claimed.
