Yamuna Authority to build Rs 810-cr Pod Taxi project in Noida
The Yamuna Authority has given the green light to the construction of India's first Pod Taxi, also known as Personalised Rapid Transit. The project will involve an investment of Rs 810 crore and will connect Jewar International Airport to Film City. The revised DPR with bid documents has been approved, and the construction work will commence as soon as the state government approves the project.
Pod Taxis are driverless, electric vehicles that can transport a small number of passengers at a faster speed. They move on electrically powered tracks that are built separately on roads to avoid regular traffic. UP will be the first state in India to have this international transit system, which is already present in Dubai, Singapore, and Heathrow Airport in London.
The proposed route for the Pod Taxis is 12-14 km long and will have 12 stations, including Sector 29, Handicraft Park, MSME Park in Sector 29, Apparel Park, Sector 32, Sector 33, Toy Park, and Sector 21. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, and it is estimated that around 37,000 passengers will be able to commute daily using these modern Pod Taxis.
