Centre Sanctions 3 Lakh PMAY-G Houses Worth Rs 3,600 Crore for Andhra Pradesh

PMAY-G Houses in Andhra pradesh
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday handed over the first instalment for 3 lakh houses worth Rs 3,600 crore to Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 at an event in Burripalem village in Guntur district.

In the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chouhan also laid the foundation stone for the country’s first pilot housing project using 3D concrete printing technology. The project will comprise 177 houses at a cost of Rs 14 crore.

Addressing the gathering, Chouhan said the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, are working together to accelerate development across sectors and make Andhra Pradesh the leading state in the country.

Centre increases housing allocation to 3 lakh houses

Chouhan said the initial allocation proposed for Andhra Pradesh under the rural housing scheme was 76,000 houses. However, following a request from Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to provide permanent homes to poor families across the state, the allocation was increased to 3 lakh houses.

“Our ministry officials had informed me that Andhra Pradesh was eligible for only 76,000 houses. But Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu insisted that every poor family in the state should have a permanent home and requested more houses. With the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have sanctioned 3 lakh houses instead of 76,000,” Chouhan said.

He added that Naidu had sought another 6 lakh houses and assured that the Centre would continue to support the state. Chouhan said another 3 lakh houses would be sanctioned after the completion of the current allocation, followed by a further 3 lakh houses.

Andhra Pradesh to use 3D concrete printing for rural housing

Chouhan described the 3D concrete printing housing project at Burripalem and Obulnayudupalem as a step towards modernising rural housing. The Rs 14 crore pilot project will use advanced machinery and 3D concrete printing technology to construct 177 houses, with construction expected to be completed within six months.

The technology is expected to reduce construction time, costs and labour requirements while providing durable houses with a longer lifespan than conventional construction methods.

Centre backs Amaravati, Polavaram and infrastructure development

Chouhan also highlighted the Centre’s support for major infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh. He said the Union government had recognised Amaravati as the sole permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh and extended special financial assistance of Rs 15,000 crore for its development.

He also referred to the Polavaram irrigation project, describing it as critical to the state’s development. According to Chouhan, the project, which had faced delays under the previous government, is now progressing with 100% grant assistance from the Centre.

Chouhan also highlighted the proposed Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, saying it would strengthen connectivity and support economic growth in the state.

PM-KISAN and Annadata Sukhibhava to support farmers

Chouhan said farmers in Andhra Pradesh would receive Rs 20,000 annually through the combined support of Rs 6,000 under the Centre’s PM-KISAN scheme and Rs 14,000 under the state government’s Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.

He said Andhra Pradesh has the potential to emerge as a leading horticulture hub, with opportunities in fruits, flowers, vegetables and medicinal crops.

On women’s economic empowerment, Chouhan said 23 lakh women in Andhra Pradesh had already become Lakhpati Didis through self-help groups. The NDA government aims to increase this number to 60 lakh by expanding livelihood and income-generation opportunities.

Chouhan also announced that the national Saras Mela would be organised in Andhra Pradesh on October 15. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the event, which will provide women-led self-help groups with an opportunity to showcase their products and expand market access.

Chandrababu Naidu thanks Centre for housing support

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu thanked Chouhan for the Centre’s support and said the state requires a total of 9 lakh houses for poor families.

Naidu said the allocation had been increased from around 75,000 houses to 3 lakh following the state government’s request. He expressed confidence that the remaining 6 lakh houses would also be sanctioned by the Centre after completion of the first phase.

Naidu said that with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and continued support from the Centre, Andhra Pradesh aims to emerge as a leading state in infrastructure, agriculture, advanced technology and rural development.
