Technip Energies has secured a large engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for its Lube Modernisation and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project at the Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra.

The contract covers the delivery of a 550 KTA (kilotonnes per annum) Integrated Hydrocracker and Catalytic Dewaxing (IHCD) unit and an 850 KTA Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) unit. Both units will be integrated into HPCL’s existing refinery operations and form a major part of the LMBU project.

The project aims to modernise HPCL’s production of lube oil base stocks, which are used in automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants. It will also enable the refinery to upgrade heavier refinery streams into higher-value products, improving resource utilisation and supporting the long-term competitiveness of the facility.

The project comes amid India’s continued investment in refining infrastructure to meet domestic demand for fuels and specialty petroleum products. By upgrading existing refinery assets, the development is expected to strengthen domestic production capabilities and improve the value generated from refinery operations.

Technip Energies classifies the award as a large contract, representing between EUR 250 million and EUR 500 million in revenue. The order intake is scheduled to be recorded in the company’s Project Delivery segment backlog in the third quarter of 2026.

Loïc Chapuis, President Project Delivery and Services at Technip Energies, commented, “This award by HPCL reflects the confidence placed in our EPC delivery capabilities and builds on a relationship between our two companies spanning more than two decades. Leveraging our expertise in refinery modernization and complex project execution, we look forward to delivering the new units and ensuring their integration with existing facilities, supporting HPCL in its strategic modernization.”
