The inauguration took place in the presence of Vice Admiral Vivek Dahiya, Director General Seabird, and other senior officers.
The residential facilities at East of Manzil Creek (EOMC) and Amadalli comprise a tower with 60 dwelling units for senior sailors and another tower with 60 units for naval defence civilians. The development also includes in-living accommodation for 156 Defence Security Corps personnel and a kindergarten school.
NCC Ltd, Hyderabad, constructed the residential accommodation and amenity facilities, while Cemindia Projects India Ltd executed the trunk infrastructure.
Phase IIA of Project Seabird is aimed at supporting the basing of ships and submarines at Karwar. The project includes the development of a dual-use Naval Air Station, a full-fledged Naval Dockyard and logistics facilities for ships and aircraft.
The naval base is expected to accommodate around 10,000 uniformed and civilian personnel, along with their families. The expansion is also expected to support economic activity, industry, tourism and employment opportunities in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada region.
The project follows the applicable norms of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Upon completion, it is expected to achieve an IGBC Gold rating. In line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, more than 90% of the project’s materials and equipment are being sourced domestically.
