Gujarat gets Rs 2 lakh-cr for infra projects

In order to build world class road and port infrastructure in Gujarat, the central government has set a towering target worth Rs. 2 lakh-cr for building infra projects in the next 3 years, said official sources. Elaborating that it has already laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 256-km long four-lane national highway, connecting pilgrimage town of Somnath with Bhavnagar. The project has been undertaken by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and is expected to complete within 2 years at the cost of Rs 4,876cr. Allocation worth Rs. 2,00,000-cr will be made for the development of roads and ports in the next 3 years in the state. Apart from this, there is a proposal to convert 7 roads, with the cumulative length of 675 kms, into national highways and that the centre has also announced the construction of a bridge between Okha and Bet-Dwarka in Devbhoomi Dwarka district entailing an investment worth Rs 490 crore. The sources further added that works related to 210 km-long coastal highway connecting Somnath, Porbandar, and Dwarka would commence from August this year itself.
