GE Power bags $72.4-mn BHEL's equipment orders

An arm of the American industrial conglomerate GE, GE Power, announced that it has bagged two orders worth $72.4 million from India's largest power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) for supplying boiler equipment. The orders have been placed on GE Power's Steam Power business for super-critical thermal power projects to be set up at Patratu in Jharkhand and Udangudi in Tamil Nadu where BHEL is executing an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the first phase expansion of Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited's 2,400 Mw supercritical Thermal Power Station at Patratu and also for the first stage of a proposed 1,320 MW Supercritical Thermal Power there. As part of the order, GE Power will supply pressure parts equipment for the Patratu project at an order value of $52 million and to Udangudi thermal power projects of worth $20.4 million for onshore supply. The equipment, including pressure parts, for both the projects will be sourced from GE's manufacturing facility in Durgapur, West Bengal, Andrew DeLeone, Managing Director of GE Power India said, adding that the company's advanced supercritical technology helps in achieving about 3-4 per cent higher plant efficiency.
