AAI launches Rs.897 cr airport expansion

Airport Authority of India (AAI)
In order to add to the current passenger handling capacity, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has unveiled a plan to expand Trichy International Airport. It has decided to build a new state of the art two-level integrated terminal, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.897 crore. The AAI is planning to develop the new terminal as a model for raising similar facilities at other airports in the country. The move has come after saturation of existing terminal which could handle 1.35 million passenger flow last year. The new terminal will be six times bigger than the existing one and will be equipped to handle 3.52 million passengers per annum. A four-member team from M/S EGIS - A France-based Project Management Consultant (PMC) along with Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials visited the airport recently and after carrying out a marathon meeting, they have now come up with the final design of the terminal. On this score, a global tender would be floated to award contract for the construction of the new terminal soon and the construction is likely to start in March 2018, said general manager, engineering project, AAI, Sanjeev Jindal said.
