Wylie Indicators Ltd: 'Our Solutions Have Highest Level of Accuracy'
Mr. Nehul Gullaiya, Head Operations, Wylie Indicators
Wylie manufactures two variants of load moment indicators, pressure indicator and tension indicator. The first one calculates the loads exerted on the crane through pressure based mechanism whereas the second one does the calculation on tensioned based mechanism. Both the indicators have minimal price difference.
These load indicators can be fitted in all types of mobile cranes, besides hydraulic & mechanical crawler cranes and tower cranes. The indicators automatically calculate the load based on the formula fitted in them displaying on the screen. Mr. Nehul Gullaiya, explains, "The ability of the indicators to display the accurate loads is actually based on our exclusively formulated intellectual property right calculations. We partner with crane OEMs to ensure that the readings are optimum based on the operational features and lifting mechanism of the cranes." Wylie provides safety systems for OEM clients like ECEL, TIL, PLS, ACE etc. It has also provided its load moment indicators to end users like L&T, HCC, Reliance Industries, TATA Motors, and Aditya Birla Group for their fleet of mobile cranes.
Some of the prominent features of the load sensors include: basic LMI functionality, optional anti two block, data logging, printer, lateral tilt sensing, swivel display, 3G data connectivity, back lit LCD for night operation, and graphic LCD display. According to Wylie, some other competitive features of the load moment indicators are instantaneous indications for SWL, hook load, radius boom length, boom angle, boom tip height, duty, falls, duty description, and warning indications. The indicators have output for motion cut, alarms and onboard push button calibration. The indicators are CE certified, enabling the operators to work in the harshest site conditions.
The load moment indicators, based on their operational features, allow the crane operators to monitor the load limits, so as to avoid any operational hazards during lifting and erections. However, these systems serve as an assistive aid to the crane operator and don’t directly control the machine in its functionality towards preventing and controlling hazards. This is because the crane operator is the supreme authority for the safety of the machine. Nonetheless, Mr. Gullaiya informs, "The load indications are equipped with data logging systems, which are absolutely tamper proof. The system records all the operations of the cranes, allowing the owner to evaluate, whether the crane has been subjected to abuse during operations."
Asset Management
As an extended solution, Wylie provides asset management backed by the indicators. According to this, the load indicators are internet enabled, which allows the crane owner to get the real time status on the operations of the cranes by giving the user password. Mr. Gullaiya says, "Presently the owners are able to get information concerning the loads lifted by the cranes, its positioning in the sites. However, we have recently started offering customized solutions to some owners allowing them to access information on the performance of the engines as well. This has been extremely beneficial to undertake predictive and preventive maintenance of the assets in the present job requirements where extended equipment availability is highly important." Wylie, which has its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility of the load moment indicators at Sahibabad near Delhi backed by its complete research and development, provides support to its load moment indicators through its service engineers across the country within and beyond warranty period.
