TIL: Indianizing Global Technology
Understanding the demand of cost-effective solutions, TIL Limited, a leading provider of globally-acclaimed infrastructure equipment, is continuously investing in Indianizing its European and American partners’ products to provide ‘world-class technologically superior equipment at affordable prices’ to a price-conscious Indian market. Pinaki Niyogy, VP & Chief Technology Officer, TIL Limited in discussion with S.A.Faridi:
Powered by its strategic alliances with European and American technology partners, viz. Manitowoc Cranes, Hyster-Yale Group, Astec Industries Inc. and PACECO Corp, TIL is offering a wide range of products that include crushing & screening solutions, double barrel technology in hot mix asphalt plants, mobile cranes (industrial, truck mounted, rough terrain and all-terrain), reach stackers, container handlers, etc, manufactured at its Kolkata and Kharagpur plants in West Bengal.
Even though the company’s products are well recognized for their reliability, quality and performance, TIL is taking stock of the current competitiveness in the market, with a presence of over 20 manufacturers offering similar products. To sustain its brand value and positioning, it is upgrading its existing range of products and launching new world-class products, which will give the company an edge over its competitors. Apart from this, TIL is also Indianizing its imported offerings in order to provide customers with global quality products at affordable prices.
TIL is investing in asphalt mixing technology
TIL is manufacturing a wide range of continuous asphalt plants for the roads & highways sector. For rural areas where smaller sized plants are needed, TIL has launched a 120-tons-per-hour (tph) capacity asphalt plant. “We have already invested in asphalt technology, which is bound to bring down the cost of our equipment. I’m confident that the 120 tph plant manufactured in India will not only meet domestic demand but will also be exported to other countries. All its components will be validated by us in India and sourced from here and not from American or European countries, which will bring down the cost and help us offer superior technology at localized pricing,” says Niyogy.
For national highways, TIL has double barrel hot mix asphalt plants which come in 220, 300, and 400 tph capacities and make for huge cost savings in transportation, dismantling and installation due to its uniquely portable design. Suitable for Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), these plants are both cost and energy-efficient, and are eco-friendly as well. Double Barrel is Astec's patented technology for aggregate drying, heating, and mixing.
Our asphalt plant is the biggest strength as it can use upto 50% of the recycled material in a continuous plant
Road construction consumes a substantial quantity of natural resources, and depleting natural resources necessitates adoption of technologies such as RAP. Astec was among the first to start talking about RAP in India. Our continuous plants can use RAP upto 50%, and can help contractors save on energy cost, along with reduced cost of construction, conservation of aggregates and binders, and most importantly, preservation of the environment.
Our new pick-n-carry crane model is a game-changer in the material handling segment
Mobiload 315 pick-n-carry crane is the latest entrant and a game changing initiative by TIL in the 15-ton mobile crane segment, which epitomizes productivity, superior technology and performance. It is ideal for construction, mining, shipping, oil refineries, heavy industries, and engineering sectors.
“We are trying to promote our pick-n-carry crane to large contractors and hirers as it can be deployed for multiple applications in varied projects, whether metro, bridge or any industrial project. Hirers are seeing pick-n-carry cranes as a best bet,” says Niyogy.
Another significant product recently introduced by TIL is the new Hyster-TIL® ReachStacker, which has been developed specifically to meet the demands of ports and other tough container handling applications. The new Hyster TIL® RS 45 will set a standard in low cost of ownership, but without compromising on Hyster’s durability, toughness and intelligent design, to deliver lower fuel consumption and longer tyre life.
Since business avenues are increasing, we are setting up a well-oiled after-market mechanism
The Indian market is vibrant and booming and there is tough competition, no doubt. But the backbone of a company lies in the quality of its products. Other companies/competitors may have their own market research and sales strategies, but it’s the quality of the product which will ultimately rule the market. There are customers in India, who want global (American, European, and Japanese) technology at low prices, and TIL can confidently meet this demand without compromising on the quality of our products.
“We are also strengthening our after-market service network. There is intense competition, but at the same time, business avenues are also increasing by the day, and we are sure that by intensifying focus on our after-market network, we can reap big benefits.”
