Surat Metro sets to float tender for ₹12,020-cr project
In a recent development, the Surat Rail Corporation (SMRC) under the stewardship of its new managing director M Thennarasan has decided to float tenders for the ₹12,020 crore mega metro projects. Laying of the first 10 km of rail lines from Dream City to Kadarsha Ni Naal will be fast tracked. The metro management is in the process of finalizing the alignment near Sarsana convention centre and then it will float tenders for the initial phase of work on 10 metro rail stations on elevated rail costing ₹250 crore per station. The Surat metro rail project involves construction of rail infrastructure in two corridors of 40-km and will be completed in three years. Under the revised Detailed Project Report, development of four of the 38 rail stations on 40.35km-long corridors will be carried out by the local body on PPP basis. The cost of development of a station is estimated at ₹111 crore . The four elevated stations that SMC will develop include Rupali Canal and Althan Tenement stations on corridor no-1 and Aquarium and Athwa Chowpatty stations in corridor 2. SMC will develop around four stations after the sale of additional FSI and will also look at an additional income of ₹1,343 crore from various financial resources. To start with, SMC will get private partners for development of all the stations.
