Sommer Kranverleih Expands Fleet with Fifth Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 Crane

The Bremen-based company is strengthening its position in the heavy-duty crane segment, with the 800-tonne cranes primarily deployed in the wind power sector.
Sommer first introduced the LTM 1750-9.1 into its fleet in 2020, a move that significantly enhanced its lifting capacity and operational scope. The company now operates five units of this model along with one Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1, with plans to add another LTM 1650-8.1 in the near future.
The 9-axle LTM 1750-9.1 stands out because the entire telescopic boom can be transported on public roads. Its design is geared towards particularly short set-up times. Thanks to its high performance, it is ideally suited for work in the wind power sector. When erecting the latest-generation towers, the 800-tonne crane installs the lower concrete segments. The upper segments, nacelle and rotor are then handled by a large lattice boom crane. However, the LTM 1750-9.1 is also frequently used for repair work, the replacement of heavy components on wind turbines and during decommissioning, known as wind energy repowering.
Sommer also deploys its large cranes in industry, the chemical sector and bridge construction. On its maiden voyage, the new LTM 1750-9.1 will perform a tandem lift with another LTM 1750-9.1 from Sommer.
Hagen and Björn are the third generation to run the family business Sommer, founded in 1959, as managing partners. The company’s core business is crane hire, with 30 mobile cranes ranging from 40 to 800 tonnes lifting capacity in Bremen and the surrounding area. The heavy-duty cranes are deployed nationwide. Sommer Kranverleih GmbH regularly modernises its fleet.
“Liebherr is a strong partner for us. The cranes retain their value well, and Liebherr also offers us special-purpose cranes that are optimally designed for specific applications. We currently have the compact LTC 1050-3.1, the LTR 1100 telescopic crawler crane, and the MK 88 Plus and MK 120-5.1 mobile construction cranes in operation,” reports Björn Sommer.
