Govt Approves Rs 438.29 Cr of Berth No. 9 at New Mangalore Port

Mangalore-Port
The New Mangalore Port Authority has received approval from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for the redevelopment of Berth No. 9 to handle liquid bulk cargo under the PPP model.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 438.29 crore, involves dismantling existing infrastructure and developing a modern berth designed to handle crude oil, petroleum products and LPG. The redevelopment will enhance the berth draft from 10.5 metres to 14 metres, with provision for future expansion up to 19.8 metres, enabling the handling of large vessels including Very Large Gas Carriers.

The upgraded facility will have a cargo handling capacity of 10.90 MTPA and will be implemented on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis through a private concessionaire. The project is expected to be completed within two years, with a concession period of 30 years.

The redevelopment is aimed at strengthening port infrastructure, improving cargo handling efficiency, and enhancing the port’s capacity to meet growing demand for liquid bulk cargo in the region.
