Rural Development Ministry Highlights Road Connectivity Achievements
Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, shared key achievements of the Ministry of Rural Development for 2024. Of the ₹1.84 lakh crore budget allocated to the ministry, ₹1.03 lakh crore has been utilized.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 9,013 km of roads were approved between June 9 and December 2, 2024, with 7,058 km constructed, connecting 1,067 habitations. PMGSY-III saw the approval of 6,614 km of roads, including 3,380 km in West Bengal, with 6,473 km completed during the same period.
Preparations for PMGSY-IV are underway, with surveys in 15 states completed to identify unconnected habitations. Accessibility guidelines for persons with disabilities have also been finalized to ensure inclusive road designs, and 10% of the work under PMGSY-IV is targeted for approval this year.
Under PM-JanMan, 2,337 km of roads were approved, with 12 km constructed so far. Financially, ₹5,973 crore has been disbursed during FY 2024-25, with total spending, including state contributions, reaching ₹10,762 crore by December 2024.
