India Advancing with 75 Ongoing Tunnel Projects Worth ₹49,000 Cr: Gadkari
India is advancing its road infrastructure with 75 ongoing tunnel projects, spanning 146 km and costing ₹49,000 crore, under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Speaking at the World Tunnel Day 2024 Conference on Safe & Sustainable Tunneling, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari emphasized the pivotal role of tunnels in modernizing India's infrastructure.
In addition to the ongoing projects, 78 new tunnels, stretching 285 km and valued at ₹1.1 lakh crore, are in the planning phase. NHAI has also completed 35 tunnel projects, covering 49 km at a cost of ₹20,000 crore.
Highlighting India’s vision to become the third-largest economy, Gadkari underscored the necessity of world-class infrastructure to support rapid growth. He commended stakeholders, including contractors and consultants, for their critical contributions to these transformative projects.
