The two roads linking Bhadohi and Chandauli with Varanasi will now be converted into four to six-lane roads and the state PWD will execute these projects at ₹273 crore and ₹416 crore, respectively. The two projects involve converting two-lane Varanasi-Gopiganj road via Bhadohi into four-lane with ₹273.12 crore, and Mohansarai-Chakia crossing road in Chandauli district via Varanasi (Cantonment) railway station and DDU Nagar (Mughalsarai) into six-lane with ₹416 crores investment. Both of them have already been approved by the state government. The existing 32-km Varanasi-Gopiganj road via Bhadohi has been connected with ring-road phase-II and the consignments of carpets for export go to airports and seaports of Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi via Varanasi. The traffic of passenger vehicles is also heavy on the existing two-lane road. The four-lane conversion will ease traffic on this road.
