Uttar Pradesh is implementing 114 major road infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 20,649 crore across the state, with several nearing completion. Each project has a cost of more than Rs 50 crore, covering road widening, four-laning, bypass construction, arterial connectivity corridors and upgrades to roads in religious towns.

According to a status report recently submitted for review to the Chief Minister’s Office, the projects are spread across districts including Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Ballia, Barabanki, Mathura and Deoria. The works are aimed at improving regional connectivity, easing traffic congestion and strengthening access to religious destinations and economic centres.

Road infrastructure projects linked to Ayodhya’s religious tourism network, including the Choudah Kosi Parikrama route, are among the major works nearing completion. Several road construction and widening projects in Mathura and eastern Uttar Pradesh have also reached advanced stages of execution.

However, land acquisition remains a key challenge affecting progress in several districts. Court cases, stay orders and delays in obtaining forest and environmental clearances, tree-felling permissions, utility shifting and approvals from agencies such as the railways have also slowed the execution of some projects.

The report has called for the expedited resolution of pending issues. Public Works Department officials have been asked to accelerate projects delayed by legal disputes and pending clearances, while district administrations are expected to intervene where required to help meet scheduled completion targets.

The ongoing road projects are expected to improve connectivity across urban and rural areas, reduce travel time and support economic activity across Uttar Pradesh. Timely resolution of execution bottlenecks will be critical to completing the projects within their planned schedules.
