Delhi Govt Plans to Fast-Track Rs 7,000 Crore Elevated Ring Road Project

Delhi's Elevated Ring Road Project
The Delhi government plans to accelerate work on its Rs 7,000-crore elevated Ring Road project following persistent traffic congestion after the opening of Barapullah Phase 3. The proposed 55-km project includes two new flyovers over the Yamuna and aims to improve connectivity between Trans-Yamuna areas and the rest of Delhi while easing congestion on key Ring Road stretches.

The elevated Ring Road would improve traffic management in the area. The detailed project report (DPR) for the first package had been completed and recently approved by the Chief Minister.

As part of the decongestion plan, the government is considering a new bridge near the existing Signature Bridge. A second flyover is proposed from Metcalfe House to the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway near Ashram.

The need for additional road capacity has become more pressing following the opening of Barapullah Phase 3, with traffic volumes increasing along the Ring Road stretch near Sarai Kale Khan, a key link between central Delhi and the eastern and southeastern parts of the city.

The initial phases identified for priority development include the 9.5-km stretch from Azadpur Flyover to Hanuman Temple near ISBT, the 2.5-km stretch from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Majnu Ka Tilla, and the 11.5-km stretch from Hanuman Temple near ISBT to DND Flyover.

Once completed, the elevated road is expected to connect Azadpur Flyover near Mukarba Chowk with the DND road, which links to Ashram Flyover. The project is intended to improve traffic flow and strengthen road connectivity across Delhi.
